Aufbegehren gegen peinliche Ortsnamen in der Türkei
An der türkischen Schwarzmeerküste begehren immer mehr Dörfer gegen ihre peinlichen Namen auf. Wie die türkische Zeitung "Zaman" heute berichtet, beantragte der Bürgermeister der Ortschaft Deliler ("Die Verrückten") jetzt beim Provinzgouverneur die Umbenennung des Dorfes in Pinarcik ("Kleine Quelle").

Flugzeug deckte Hausdach ab
Der Sog eines Passagierflugzeuges hat gestern Abend in der Nähe des Grazer Flughafens ein Hausdach teilweise abgedeckt. Vier Personen, die auf der Terrasse gesessen sind, wären beinahe von Ziegeln getroffen worden. Auslöser war laut Flughafen ein Wirbel am Heck des Flugzeugs.

Hundreds of gladiators sporting chain-mail, wolf-skins and swinging grappling nets marched by the ruins of ancient Rome on Monday in a birthday celebration for the city, which legend says was founded 2,756 years ago.

Troops find $650 million in Baghdad - Thats mine
Two Army sergeants in Baghdad stumbled across an estimated $650 million in U.S. currency hidden in a cottage, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The sergeants tore down a cinderblock and concrete barricade blocking the cottage door Friday and found 40 sealed, galvanized aluminum boxes lined up on the floor. Breaking open one box, they discovered 40 sealed stacks of uncirculated $100 bills - $100,000 per stack, or $4 million in the box. In all, the 40 boxes were assumed to contain $160 million.

CNN's future obituaries
While all news organizations prepare obituaries in advance of the deaths of famous individuals, the folks at CNN inadvertently gave the Internet-surfing public a chance to preview how the network's web site would note the demise of Vice President Dick Cheney, Ronald Reagan, and a few other prominent figures. Until earlier this afternoon, a CNN server housed mock-ups of web pages announcing the yet-to-happen deaths. The CNN pages, which were discovered by the intrepid folks at fark.com, were yanked about 20 minutes after being exposed.

Coca-Cola, Swedish Family Fight Over Name
Swedish law prohibits registration of trademarks that use someone else's family name. But the Court of Patent Appeals ruled in favor of Coca-Cola last month, saying the English word "urge" was more commonly known than the family name, which is pronounced "OOR-geh."

China, Iran and U.S. Top Executioners, Amnesty Says
At least 1,526 people were executed worldwide last year, with 80 percent of all known executions carried out in China, Iran and the United States, Amnesty International said on Friday.
The London-based human rights group also expressed concern that U.S. military tribunals which will prosecute "terrorist" suspects will have the power to impose death sentences which cannot be appealed.

Woman marries man 27 years younger than her
After living together for 57 years, Isolina Ojeda, 107, of Chile and her 86-year-old lover decided to make it official, tying the knot here this week, local media reported.
Slightly hard of hearing, it took Ojeda a moment to say her "I do," which she eventually declared loud and clear, according to people attending the civil ceremony in Santiago's La Florida district on Wednesday.
