Disco fever grips Tokyo by the crystal balls
The flashing disco floors that lit up Japan's night scene during the '70s and '80s are making a comeback as well-known clubs reopen their doors. And once-popular songs are also drawing in crowds as disco CD sales rocket in the midst of a disco boom.

Ancient carved 'faces' found
A keen-eyed archaeologist claims to have found some of the oldest artwork ever - carved faces 200,000 years old.
The human images were found in 2001 by Pietro Gaietto on an expedition through the Borzonasca district of Italy.

The lava lamp celebrates its 40th
Since it tends to be associated with the shaga- delic 1970s, it is hard to believe the lava lamp is celebrating its 40th birthday. But although it seems somewhat younger, the ultimate retro “light entertainment” gadget has lived life at the sharp end - first as a mass-market pop icon, then as a tired old has-been, and later as a modern classic (a designation bestowed on it by the British Design Council in July 2000).

Polizei-Großeinsatz wegen roter Farbe
Rote Farbe hat am Samstag einen Großeinsatz der Polizei ausgelöst. Weil eine Lacke bei einem Sammelcontainer in Wien-Leopoldstadt wie Blut aussah, wurde ein Mord befürchtet.

Chip Maker Finds Bombs Among Potatoes
Workers at a Kettle Foods potato chip plant were feeding potatoes into a machine that sorts out stones and other debris this week when a 3-pound military bomb popped out.
General manager Marc Cramer said the shipment from a Pasco, Wash., farm also contained a second bomb.

On September 7th, 2003, President Bush announced on national television that he was asking the Congress to grant him an additional $87 billion dollars for the next fiscal year, beginning October 1, to continue the fight on terror in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Ein schwerhöriger und gehbehinderter 91 Jahre alter Amerikaner hat vor einem Gericht im US-Staat Texas einen Banküberfall gestanden. Auf seinen Krückstock gestützt und mit einem Hörgerät ausgestattet, bekannte er sich gestern für schuldig.
Es war sein dritter Bankraub innerhalb der vergangenen fünf Jahre. Der Senior war seit 1999 für drei Jahre in Florida im Gefängnis gesessen - als ältester Häftling in dem US-Staat.
