Breakthrough drug Valium turns 40
A cultural phenomenon is headed over the hill. A tiny pill that became a part of the American lexicon and inspired novels like “Valley of the Dolls” and songs like the Rolling Stones’ “Mother’s Little Helper” is hitting the big four-oh this weekend. Forty years ago this Saturday — Nov. 15, 1963 — the Food and Drug Administration approved Valium.

Ten most overpaid jobs in the U.S.
Almost no one in America would admit to being overpaid, but many of us take home bloated paychecks far beyond what we deserve. "Fair compensation" is a relative term, yet HR consultants and executive headhunters agree some jobs command excessive pay that can't be explained by labor supply-and-demand imbalances.

Simpsons Plant Seeds of Invention
Homer Simpson is not a guy people want to emulate. "D'oh!" is his most-used expression, and with good reason. His endeavors tend to go horribly, horribly wrong.
Nevertheless, Rob Baur of Lake Oswego, Oregon, dreamed of bringing to life his favorite The Simpsons episode, one from 1999 in which Homer grows "tomacco," a combination tomato-tobacco plant. Even though it tastes foul and has a brown, gooey center, the entire town becomes addicted to the fruit after one bite, and Homer gets rich.
