Explorer trudged North Pole with broken ankle

An explorer who became the first person to walk unaided and alone to the North Pole has revealed he trudged the last 60 miles over five days with a broken ankle. David Hempleman-Adams broke his left ankle when he tumbled off an icefall 16 days into his record-breaking expedition.

"I crawled into my tent, it was late at night and it was blowing a hooly (gale)," he told a news conference on his first day back in Britain on Friday.

Train car full of propane thrown 1.5 KM by explosion..

Propane that spilled from a freight train derailment was allowed to burn yesterday after two fiery explosions, five hours apart, punctured the morning calm in this rural area east of Belleville.

As many as 500 residents were moved to safety after an eastbound train carrying propane and hazardous chemicals derailed and crashed into a parked train about 4:45 a.m., shaking neighbouring homes.

Propane tanks burned uncontrolled throughout the day and a second massive detonation at about 10 a.m. kept emergency workers at a safe distance from the scene.

A brief history of time

This is the real timeline of the Earth's history. A timeline of time itself. Completely falsified of course. The dates are undoubtedly wrong. And there are dates that are supposed to be closely fictitiously factual, but I don't care, so neither should you. Whatever. Enjoy anyway.

It all begins waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back when

A 1901 lightbulb still burns bright to this day

day you'll find this remarkable light bulb burning bright at a fire station in Livermore, California. It hasn't been turned off since 1901. The Guinness Book of World Records, Ripley's Believe It Or Not and General Electric agree the bulb, made of tungsten and of unknown wattage, is the longest-living in history, despite two moves and a few power outages during its lifetime.
