Er trotzte Anakondas, Kaimanen und aggressiven Ureinwohnern: Der Brite Ed Stafford hat als erster Mensch eine Wanderung von der Quelle bis zur Mündung des Amazonas geschafft. Etwa 6400 Kilometer legte er in zweieinhalb Jahren zurück - einen Tag vor dem Ziel brach er zusammen.

Man with 'world's longest hair', Tran Van Hay, dies in Vietnam
Tran Van Hay is thought to have had hair up to 6.8 metres long, although it had never been officially measured for a record attempt. It stretched in a thick, matted cord around his body, resembling a massive furry boa constrictor.

Paraglider survives after soaring to 32,000 feet
A German paraglider was encased in ice and blacked out after being sucked into a tornado-like thunderstorm in Australia and carried to a height greater than Mount Everest. She survived.
“The glider kept climbing, climbing and I couldn’t see anything," recalled Ewa Wisnerska. "Then it got dark."

Cat rides 150 miles in car's engine, OK
The long-haired gray cat rode unseen in the engine compartment of a female college student's car as she drove home for the holidays. Officials at Pontiac's Michigan Animal Rescue League, the feline's current home, say he probably survived the 150 mile-trip in the Chevrolet Tracker because the woman did not stop.

German crowned world beard champion
A German sporting thick white sideburns arching from his ears to his chin has been crowned World Beard and Moustache Champion in the US state of Nevada. "I feel as happy as a pig in mud," said Berliner Karl Heinz Hille, who beat 130 contestants for the coveted title.

Man talks his way to new world record
A Zimbabwean man has talked his way into what could be a new Guinness world record with a speech lasting 36 hours.
Jonah Mungoshi, a 35-year-old father of three and bank executive, beat a 26-hour record set by South African John Trevor Walker on his way to a personal goal of 36 hours of almost non-stop talk which ended at 10 p.m.
