Legotron, Mark I — 4×5 Camera made of LEGO bricks
Back in August of 2009, I blogged about having an idea of making a 4×5 out of LEGO bricks. Ten days later I’d made some serious progress on it. I started with trying to use the LEGO builder App on the computer to spec it out before I built it, but my mind wouldn’t work like that, so I threw that out and borrowed a metric tonne of LEGOs from my friend Gregory. I made a couple of rounds of prototypes that proved to work well enough for my mind to think Hello World / proof of concept. Fast forward a bit and I got really busy and left the project sitting on a desk for just ages. A big hitch in the progress, other than being busy, was that I’d built just enough of the camera to realize I had to rebuild the main body to accomodate the film holder—a part I’d forgotten to plan for.

The genius of the Lego Printer
Let’s be clear on one thing: Lego is brilliant. The block-based toy started life in Denmark and, since its current design was patented in January 1958, over 400 billion of the little plastic bricks have been produced.

While the site is normally full of offensive pictures and jokes that Frankie Boyle wouldn’t tell, this show of ingenuity is guaranteed to put a smile on your face: by combining the diminutive plastic bricks with a Mac and a felt-tip pen, he’s built a fully-functioning Lego printer:

Zombie Apocafest 2009
Zombie Apocafest 2009 has come and gone. The undead have been blown up, shot up, and mulched to oblivion. The humans stand victorious among the ruins of their civilization. Fortunately, that civilization was, by good fortune, built from LEGO, and it can be rebuilt, brick by little plastic brick.

Lego Augmented Reality
Yesterday we found ourselves at a Lego Store and stumbled across one of their augmented reality kiosks. The premise is simple and awesome: hold up a box in front of a camera and a 3-D representation of the fully assembled model is projected on top of the box. You can rotate the box and the model moves with it.

Few more LEGO impossible structures for you! I have yet again included all the Lego illusions I could find on my computer. Some are better, some are mediocrity, and some of them hardly deserve to be included. It's up to you to decide which one of these photos wins over the competition.
