The Catholic Church is telling people in countries stricken by Aids not to use condoms because they have tiny holes in them through which the HIV virus can pass - potentially exposing thousands of people to risk.

German priest brews beer in washing machine
A German priest has found a way to brew beer in his washing machine. Michael Fey, 45, of Duisburg built a computer interface into the machine to let it run an automatic brewing programme. It consists of turning and heating, but no spinning, the Sueddeutsche Zeitung reports. "A priest without alcohol, that's the wrong combination," he argued. "Jesus didn't say, take this healthy camomile tea, he offered wine."

Penis sizes of world religious figures
Founding a major world religion can be difficult. But it has its perks, chief among them the groupies. Even rock musicians can't moisten the ladies' laps like someone who promises to plow them with the ol' God Rod. But Prophets tend to be arrogant and self-absorbed, and when they've finished using the bodies of their willing female supplicants, they toss them in the garbage like a half-eaten tray of fish 'n' chips. But now the God Groupies are having their revenge. A website called messiahs-exes.com is run by and dedicated to the women who've been used and then cast aside by Prophets of the Lord.

The Vatican state has one of the highest crime rates in the world -- on paper anyway.
Statistics released on Wednesday showed that in 2002 there were 397 civil offences and 608 penal offences in the 108-acre city state surrounded by Rome.
Since only 455 people live in the Vatican, that would make the crime rate 87.2 percent of the population for civil offences and a whopping 133.6 percent of the population for penal crimes.

From science and computers, a new face of Jesus
The Jesus pictured on the cover of this month's Popular Mechanics has a broad peasant's face, dark olive skin, short curly hair and a prominent nose. He would have stood 5-foot-1-inch tall and weighed 110 pounds, if the magazine is to be believed.
