Dutch prepare for Maya apocalypse
Thousands of Dutch people are buying boats and rations and building bunkers to await an apocalypse predicted by the Maya of South America.
On December 21 2012, the "Long Count" calendar of the Maya people clicks over to year zero, marking the end of a 5,000-year era.
Belying their country's rational and laid back image, thousands of Dutch people are convinced the date coincides with a world catastrophe, the Volkskrant newspaper reports.

Church of Scientology blames Pearl Harbor, 9/11 on psychiatry
In an interview on a television show called the No Drug Show, hosted by Larry Byrnes, the Church of Scientology blamed both the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States and the attack on Pearl Harbor on psychiatrists and the drugs they prescribe their patients. Scientology considers psychiatry to be barbaric and a violation of human rights.

NASA talks little green men with Vatican
It's a good time to be a Catholic and a cosmologist. Heretic stake burnings are at an all-time low, and the Vatican has even warmed to the idea of ETs out there in the infinite expanse.
So, it was a notably un-charred and still-communicated Father George Coyne, former director of the Vatican Observatory, who stopped by NASA's Ames Research Center Thursday night to chat about the possibility of life on other plants.

"Loose" women to send knickers to Hindu group
Thousands of Indians, many fuming over a recent assault on women in a pub, are vowing to fill bars on Valentine's Day and send cartons of pink panties to a radical Hindu group that has branded outgoing females immoral.
A "consortium of pub-going, loose and forward women," founded by four Indian women on social networking website Facebook has, in a matter of days, attracted more than 25,000 members with over 2,000 posts about the self-appointed moral police.

Hate Darwin? Then Give Up Your Luxuries
So you’re a creationist or a fundamentalist, whatever. You know what? That’s fine. I don’t really care what you believe for yourself. Personally I don’t think you should be allowed to raise your kids in such a way as I think it’s cruel, but whatever. That’s just me being silly, thinking kids should have a fighting chance by teaching them what is real and how best to get along in the world, not teaching them that there was a talking snake and 2 naked people in a garden that screwed everything up for everybody. Oh, and a man died and came back to life and then flew to heaven and that’s why the kid drinks a sip of wine and eats a cracker every sunday. But oh yeah, Santa Claus was just a story his parents told him to keep him in line. Yeah, makes perfect sense.

Papst Benedikt hat sie rehabilitiert, aber das reicht ihnen nicht: Die erzkonservativen Bischöfe aus der Piusbruderschaft strotzen vor Selbstvertrauen, wollen die katholische Kirche noch weiter nach rechts führen. Einer ihrer Vordenker gibt nun das Ziel vor: "Rom bekehren."

Papal Adviser Concedes 'Management Errors'
Cardinal Walter Kasper, who is in charge of the Vatican's relations with the Jewish community, has acknowledged that mistakes were made in the decision to lift the excommunication of a Holocaust denier. A German bishop has called the move "catastrophic" and is demanding an apology and now Chancellor Angela Merkel has called for greater clarity from the Vatican.

Die Wahrheiten des Alex Jones
Kurze Zeit nach Veröffentlichung des Artikels erschien, unter dem Titel "Hexenjagd gegen Wahrheitsbewegung erreicht neuen Level in Deutschland", eine Erwiderung auf der Internetseite "infokrieg.tv", die offenkundig die deutsche Version von "infowars.com" darstellt. Der Autor behauptet darin unter anderem, der Telepolis-Artikel rücke "Angehörige der Opfer, Aktivisten und Forscher in die Nähe von Terroristen". Weiterhin heißt es, "ernste Zweifel am sogenannten Krieg gegen den Terror" würden in "Die Verschwörungsindustrie" als "terroristische Agitation" gebrandmarkt.
Diese geradezu absurde Polemik zieht sich als Tenor durch die gesamte Erwiderung, hat jedoch nicht viel mit dem Inhalt des Artikels zu tun, der den Grund für derlei Aufregung abgab. Der Artikel war keineswegs als "Rundumschlag […] gegen die Kritiker" der offiziellen Darstellung der Ereignisse vom 11.09.2001 gedacht, wie vom Autor des Antwortartikels unterstellt. Stattdessen wird im Artikel "Die Verschwörungsindustrie" penibel unterschieden: zwischen legitimen Zweifeln an der offiziellen Darstellung der Anschläge – deren Aufklärung auch als "lückenhaft" und "unvollständig" bezeichnet wird – und alternativen Theorien zu den Anschlägen, die hingegen als Tatsache verkauft werden. Das Problem liegt folglich auch nicht in den Verschwörungstheorien an sich, sondern in einer mangelnden Differenzierung zwischen Theorien und Tatsachen.

Wie „nine-eleven“ in den USA von Linken und Rechten ausgeschlachtet wird – und wer davon profitiert Mehr als sieben Jahre nach „9/11“ sind immer mehr US-Bürger davon überzeugt, nicht die volle Wahrheit über die Anschläge zu kennen. Einer Umfrage aus dem Jahr 2006 zufolge glauben etwa 40 % der Amerikaner, dass Regierungsvertreter im Vorfeld von den Anschlägen wussten. Eine weitere Umfrage kam 2007 zu dem Ergebnis, dass etwa zwei Drittel der Amerikaner der Meinung sind, die Regierung Bush hätte versucht, Beweise, die der offiziellen Version widersprachen, zu vertuschen.
