Google Crawling IRC?
Lately, we've had this bot on a private IRC network scanning the links:
[OV] MOTD requested by eddie52 (Eddie@xxx-xxx-xx-x.google.com) [irc.xxxxxxxxx.com] [OV] LINKS '' requested by eddie52 (Eddie@xxx-xxx-xx-x.google.com) [irc.xxxxxxxxx.com] [WI] eddie07!~Eddie@xxx-xxx-xx-x.google.com (walso)
IPs and hostnames changed to protect the innocent and shy. The IP the bot comes from is inside an IP block belonging to Google. Interesting.

What's Google Really Worth?
Informed speculation says Google will issue an initial $1 billion worth of shares, which would represent what analysts think is about a year's worth of sales. That's a huge deal considering how unfriendly the IPO climate remains for tech concerns. The more enthusiastic sorts on Wall Street say an IPO may be worth as much as $25 billion, based mainly on a comparison with successful Web giants, such as Yahoo!, Amazon, and eBay. Other experts respond that such an appraisal is wishful thinking.

Google set to rewrite the rules of advertising
Originally the revenue from running search engines came from banner advertisements, which was more a cash trickle than a cash flow.
