"Google is being accused of refusing to remove racist blogs targeting minority groups in Australia. Google, whose corporate motto is "don't be evil", says it will take the blogs in question offline only if ordered to do so by a court."

Google Acquires SpaceShipOne? hoax

Categorize this as another unsubstantiated Google rumor, but the word on the street is that Google has acquired SpaceShipOne and is putting it inside building 43 at Google headquarters in Mountain View, California. No word on the purchase price, or if this was a donation, or why the ship is not staying at the Smithsonian.

YouTube Could Be Hit By European TV Rules

YouTube and other video-sharing sites may have to be licensed like TV if a European Commission proposal isn’t stopped. Even worse: video bloggers posting clips to their personal sites may have to seek a license to operate a “television-like service”. The Commission wants video posted on the web to conform to the same standards as television, but thankfully the UK government is opposing the move.

Google Launches Experimental Search Engine

Google has launched an unbranded, experimental site to test search features that could one day show up in its current online search engine.

The SearchMash homepage gives no indication that its from Google. To see the connection, one has to go the privacy page.

"SearchMash is a website operated by Google Inc.," the page says. "The Google Privacy Policy describes how we treat personal information when you use our products and services, including information provided when you use SearchMash."

Google “Docs & Spreadsheets” Launches

Google just launched Docs & Spreadsheets at docs.google.com. It integrates the previously separate Writely and Spreadsheet product silos into a single control panel and admin area (the previous sites for those products redirect to docs.google). This is not a deep product integration, but it is another shot across the bow of Microsoft Office. I had an unexpected opportunity to meet the team and take a look at the product earlier today along with a few other bloggers.

Google’s 56 forgotten (secret) pages

Some time ago I was writing Google’s Secrets part 1. Time to show everybody, other Google things that most of us don’t see/get.

Again, some of these pages are indeed still public, but either have not been seen by many people, have been missed or are just very hard to find.

Google Code Search - Some of your db passwords are belong to us

Google opened up a new search sevice called Google Code Search today. The new search allows you to search through a huge index of code that the Google search engine has crawled over the years.

Being the curious beings we are, a friend of mine and I immediately started searching for passwords to see just how much Google was indexing. It didn’t turn up much in the way of anything “secret” until we refined our search to just wp-config files (the file that contains the database connection information for Wordpress installs).
