Will Segways become battlefield bots?
It's called the Segway Human Transporter, but the Pentagon is drafting the two-wheeled scooter as part of a plan to develop battlefield robots that think on their own and communicate with troops.
The program is still in the research phase, so the self-balancing scooters aren't expected to report to boot camp anytime soon.

Comin' In on a Wheel and a Prayer
Bombardier, maker of planes, trains and water mobiles, forged a new way to battle wet and heavy terrain when it introduced the first snowmobile in 1942. Sixty-one years later, the transport manufacturer is again out to re-invent personal travel, this time on dry ground and congested city streets -- and on one wheel.

Segway P-series arrives
The "P-series" Segway HT is out. This is the more consumer-oriented edition of the Segway that we reported on a few weeks ago. This one is slower, smaller, more compact, and less expensive than the previous versions, which were intended more for use by businesses and police and postal workers.

Building a Balancing Scooter
Balancing lateral scooters, like the Segway™ are often thought to be technological miracles, but it is not actually very hard to build a balancing scooter. I built the one described here for my own amusement, and to help me understand the control theory behind it.

recently, i hit 100 miles, it took about 14 days of commuting to hit that, i didn't count other trips or previous commute trips so i could keep careful logs.

Is Segway going anywhere?
Kamen’s trouble finding a market is a reminder that a novel idea isn’t necessarily a hot one. Dean Kamen has some awfully impressive accomplishments under his belt. The self-taught inventor has made millions on such breakthrough devices as a stent to keep arteries clear and a portable dialysis machine for kidney patients. So will he notch up another win with his latest project, the much-hyped Segway Human Transporter?

Segway hits unexpected bumps
The two-wheeled battery-powered scooter known as the Segway all but hypnotized the media and public when it was unveiled a year ago. But the fascination appears to be wearing thin in Northern California. After San Francisco decided to ban the Segway from its sidewalks late last year, a number of other Bay Area cities — from Oakland to Santa Cruz — are considering the same move.
