Olympiasieger gelingt Flucht aus Gerichtssaal
Der 40-jährige Ungar, vor 16 Jahren Champion in der Klasse bis 82 kg im griechisch-römischen Stil, war bereits 2004 von der Polizei verhaftet worden, nachdem diese eine Fabrik zur Herstellung von Cannabis entdeckt hatte. Dort wurden Tausende von Haschisch-Pflanzen angebaut.

Drug smugglers break down outside police station
Elite Kenyan police who went to help a luxury 4x4 that broke down outside their base were surprised when the occupants took off on foot - until officers took a closer look and found the vehicle loaded with marijuana.

New Bolivian President Suspends Indefinitely US-Led Drug Enforcement Operations
President Evo Morales has announced he is suspending "indefinitely" the operations of the US Drug Enforcement Administration in Bolivia.
Mr Morales accused the agency of having encouraged anti-government protests in the country in September.
He did not say whether its staff would be asked to leave the country, as coca- growers have been pressing him to do.

Das Paradies geöffnet - Der Flughafen ein Hanf Museum!
Nun ist es soweit, das letzte Flugzeug hebt von Flughafen Tempelhof ab. Allerdings noch nicht heute, wie vorgesehen, sondern wegen starkem Regen erst morgen. Es sitzen wohl einige Flugpassagiere dort fest.

Polizist mit Marihuana-Plantage auf Dachboden
Ein deutscher Polizist hat in seinem Haus in der Oberpfalz (Bayern) eine Marihuana-Zucht betrieben. Der 39 Jahre alte Beamte sitze in Untersuchungshaft, bestätigte ein Sprecher des Oberlandesgerichtes Nürnberg.

Drug use declines as seizures reach record - Cannabis consumption at its lowest in 10 years
Illicit drug use in Britain is declining, with cannabis use at its lowest level for 10 years and cocaine also down, according to British Crime Survey figures published yesterday. The estimated falls in drug consumption are matched by a 15% rise in seizures of all classes of drugs by the police and customs in England and Wales to 186,028 - a level not seen since 1973.

Drug money 'tainting Ghana poll'
Ghana's election campaign could be tarnished by money from West African drug trafficking, an official has said.
Kwesi Aning, head of research at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, said the "very fabric" of Ghanaian society was under threat.
His comments came as the UN warned in a report that West Africa risks becoming an epicentre for drug trafficking from South America to Europe.

In Mexiko haben Mitarbeiter der Generalstaatsanwaltschaft im großen Stil mit einem Drogenkartell zusammengearbeitet. Angestellte der Abteilung für den Kampf gegen das organisierte Verbrechen gaben Informationen über Ermittlungen an Dealer weiter und standen auf der Gehaltsliste des Beltran-Leyva-Kartells, wie die Staatsanwaltschaft mitteilte.

Drug unit 'corrupted' in Mexico
Members of an elite Mexican anti-drug unit passed information to a drug cartel in exchange for thousands of dollars, prosecutors say.
They said police agents and senior officials gave sensitive information to the Beltran Leyva organisation.
Assistant Attorney General Marisela Morales said those involved had received up to $450,000 (£290,000) a month from the cartel.

The Stoned Age
As Kat reported earlier in the week, a news story which got a bit of hype said that scientists had discovered evidence suggesting Stone Age man used herbal mixtures to get high. [The Long Trip] The article lead off with the following statement: "It has long been suspected that humans have an ancient history of drug use, but there has been a lack of proof to support the theory."
