28 Bier am Tag, Rum und Kokain: Dennis Hopper spricht über das Leben an der Schwelle und über die Rolle als Tod im neuen Film von Wim Wenders.
Ein Abend im Glas-und-Betonpalast der Cinémathèque française im Pariser Vorort Bercy, seit drei Jahren ihr aktuelles Quartier. Premierenabend, die Gäste drängen sich schon. Dennis Hopper wird gefeiert, mit einer Retrospektive des ganzen New Hollywood, von "Easy Rider" bis "Apokalypse Now", einer Ausstellung seines photographischen und malerischen Werks. Auch Wim Wenders ist da, ihn zu ehren. Aus der Nähe betrachtet, erscheint der 72-jährige Hopper, der auf der Leinwand inzwischen fast unzerstörbar wirkt, dann doch erstaunlich fragil.

Marijuana Could Be Good for Memory — But Not if You Get High
Everybody knows a forgetful stoner, but research suggests that low doses of marijuana could be good for memory, and even help prevent Alzheimer's disease.
When given a compound similar to THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, rat brains displayed reduced levels of inflammation associated with Alzheimer's disease. The drug also stimulated the production of proteins associated with memory formation and brain cell growth.

Cocaine users are destroying the rainforest - at 4m squared a gram
Four square metres of rainforest are destroyed for every gram of cocaine snorted in the UK, a conference of senior police officers as told yesterday.
Francisco Santos Calderón, the vice-president of Colombia, appealed to British users of the class A drug to consider the impact on the environment. He said that while the green agenda would not persuade addicts to give up, the middle-class social user who drove a hybrid car and was concerned about the environment might not take the drug if they knew its impact.

CNN video: Ecstasy used to treat PTSD
CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta reported that a Georgia woman has used ecstasy to treat her post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Gail Westerfield has had depression going back to a childhood assault and rape later in life. She was given ecstasy as part of a pilot study being done by Dr. Michael Mitheofer.

Ten and a half tons of hashish recovered in Almería province
14 people have been arrested in connection with the seizure of ten and a half tons of hashish in Almería province. The Guardia Civil have carried out four separate operations over the last weekend on beaches in the province.
The first raid was at 4am on Saturday on the Conda beach in Adra where 81 bales containing 2,640 kilos of the drug were recovered.
