Ecstasy's long-term effects revealed
THEY called it the second summer of love. Twenty years ago, young people all over the world donned T-shirts emblazoned with smiley faces and danced all night, fuelled by a molecule called MDMA. Most of these clubbers have since given up ecstasy and are sliding into middle age. The question is, has ecstasy given up on them?
Enough time has finally elapsed to start asking if ecstasy damages health in the long term. According to the biggest review ever undertaken, it causes slight memory difficulties and mild depression, but these rarely translate into problems in the real world. While smaller studies show that some individuals have bigger problems, including weakened immunity and larger memory deficits, so far, for most people, ecstasy seems to be nowhere near as harmful over time as you may have been led to believe.

The arrests triggered by the publication of the Michael Phelps bong photo have had nothing to do with the November house party attended by the Olympic champion, court documents show. Instead, the Phelps photo clearly spurred South Carolina cops to target several young men who lived at two residences that allegedly were "identified as a location where marihuana is frequently stored and consumed."

Cocaine cheaper than lager and wine as drug price falls by half
A line of cocaine is now cheaper than a pint of lager or a glass of wine, official figures have disclosed.
The Home Office has admitted that the street price of both cocaine and heroin has fallen by nearly half in the last ten years, making the most dangerous illegal drugs cheaper than they have ever been.
Based on reports from police forces, the Home Office said that cocaine is now being sold for as little as £20 a gram in some parts of the country.
The most common price for the drug is £40 per gram. Home Office figures for 1998 show the average price was £77.

Offiziell: Cannabis ist keine Einstiegsdroge
Die von der Regierung betriebene Internetseite drugcom.de hat im "Topthema" Dezember die Einschätzung bekräftigt, dass Cannabis keine Einstiegsdroge ist.
So neu ist das eigentlich gar nicht. Wissenschaftller reden schon lange nicht mehr von der Einstiegsdroge Cannabis. Und auch aus offiziellen Regierungsstatements ist das Argument "Einstiegsdroge" weitgehend verschwunden. Informationen, die man von der zuständigen Regierungsbehörde, der Bundeszentrale für gesundheitliche Aufklärung (BZGA) zu Cannabis bekommt, sagen schon länger ausdrücklich, dass Cannabis keine Einstiegsdroge ist.

Big Bong Theory
So Michael Phelps dove headfirst into the bong water. Is anyone really surprised, after all those laps? There has always been something submerged and escapist about the world's greatest swimmer. When presented with a chamber containing a hazy translucent liquid, he did what's become second nature to him. He buried his face in it.

I was going to stay off the Michael Phelps story, especially the part where people are claiming that Phelps betrayed himself and his admirers, but after watching the following clip from “The View”, I changed my mind.

CBS reported that there has been little outrage over the photo of Michael Phelps using a bong. Gold medallist Ross Rebagliati tells Harry Smith that Phelps shouldn’t be crucified for a momentary lapse in judgement.

Know Your Mushrooms
The Flaming Lips live experience is probably the most psychedelic thing you'll see on stage these days, so it's probably appropriate that they've soundtracked a film called Know Your Mushrooms.
The documentary was written, produced and directed by Toronto's Ron Mann (Grass, Go Further) and follows mushroom experts Larry Evans and Gary Lincoff "on a hunt for the wild mushroom and the deeper cultural experiences attached to the mysterious fungi," according to the film's website

I take it back. I don’t apologize.
Because you know what? It’s none of your goddamned business. I work my ass off 10 months a year. It’s that hard work that gave you all those gooey feelings of patriotism last summer. If during my brief window of down time I want to relax, enjoy myself, and partake of a substance that’s a hell of a lot less bad for me than alcohol, tobacco, or, frankly, most of the prescription drugs most of you are taking, well, you can spare me the lecture.

Swimmer Phelps regrets pot pipe
US swimming star Michael Phelps has admitted to "regrettable behaviour", after a UK newspaper published a photo of him apparently smoking cannabis.
Phelps, 23, who won eight gold medals at the Beijing Olympics last year, was pictured by the News of the World inhaling from a glass pipe.
