Schmugglerin tarnt Kokain in Spraydosen
1,5 Kilogramm Kokain versuchte eine Frau von Ecuador nach Spanien zu schmuggeln. Obwohl sie sich eine ausgeklügelte Taktik einfallen ließ, flog die Spanierin bei der Kontrolle am Flughafen von Barcelona auf. Dort kennt man sich mit kreativen Schmuggelversuchen aus.

Cocaine poisoned how many people exactly?
Scattered around the Web, mostly at sites dealing with drug addiction (here and here, for example), is a "Cocaine Timeline" that includes this 1912 milestone: "U.S. government reports 5,000 cocaine-related fatalities in one year." The number seems awfully high, given that the Drug Abuse Warning Network (DAWN) counted about 4,000 "drug misuse deaths" involving cocaine in 2004, when the U.S. population was about 294 million, three times what it was in 1912.

Die Zahl der Haschisch- und Kokain-Konsumenten steigt seit einigen Jahren deutlich an
Veränderungen gibt es auf dem Markt selbst, was sich auch bei Untersuchungen wie dem jährlich erscheinenden Drogenbericht des Gesundheitsministeriums spiegelt. Dessen jüngste Ausgabe wurde im Oktober 2008 vorgestellt und zeigt Auffälligkeiten bei Haschisch und Kokain. Auf die Frage, ob sie jemals in ihrem Leben einen Joint geraucht haben, antworteten im Jahr 1993 fünf Prozent der Wiener mit "ja". Im Jahr 2007 waren es fast viermal so viele: 19 Prozent stimmten zu.

A plaster cast on a genuinely broken leg of a 66 year old Chilean man, who had arrived on a flight from Santiago de Chile at Barcelona El Prat airport, has been found to have been made of cocaine.

How to stop the drug wars - Prohibition has failed; legalisation is the least bad solution
A HUNDRED years ago a group of foreign diplomats gathered in Shanghai for the first-ever international effort to ban trade in a narcotic drug. On February 26th 1909 they agreed to set up the International Opium Commission—just a few decades after Britain had fought a war with China to assert its right to peddle the stuff. Many other bans of mood-altering drugs have followed. In 1998 the UN General Assembly committed member countries to achieving a “drug-free world” and to “eliminating or significantly reducing” the production of opium, cocaine and cannabis by 2008.
