World Drug Report Preface majors on legalisation
Below is the text from the Preface to World Drug Report 2009 - dominated by a detailed rebuttal of the growing calls for a debate on legal regulation of drug production and supply. We have deconstructed these kind of critiques so many times before, we won’t be doing it again here - other than to observe it is the same confused mix of misrepresentations, straw man arguments, and logical fallacies that we have been used hearing from the UNODC's drug warriors. The particularly strange thing here though is that some of the analysis of the problem, the critique at least, is actually fairly good - its where it leads that is so extraordinary....

Five "Dope" Albums That Changed the World
It’s unclear exactly when the word “dope” jumped from its negative noun form (as a euphemism for idiot or dummy) to its positive adjective form (as in, “so-and-so’s new record is dope!”) We here at Crustcake suspect it was right around the time illegal drugs and rock n’ roll reached an equal foothold in youth culture. As an unsurprising result, the word in its current form stands out significantly in the glossary of rock and metal’s gruesome grimoire.

420 help is here - Police: Man advertised pot sales on Craigslist
Drug dealers take note: Potheads aren’t the only ones who know what 420 means.
Quincy police arrested a man advertising his wares with the words “420 help is here” on the online classified site Craigslist. Drug detectives knew that in the cannabis culture, 420 means getting high on marijuana.

Washington, DC: Demokrat Barney Frank, mit dem co-sponsor Ron Paul (R-TX); Maurice Hinchey (D-NY); Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA); und Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), haben am 18. Juni 2009 ein neues Gesetz in den US-Kongress eingebracht um die Bundesbehörden in ihren Befugnissen, kleinere Marihuanabesitzer zu verhaften und einzusperren, zu beschneiden. (Es ist noch nicht aktiv!)

Mexico will decriminalize some drug use
Could Mexican cities become Latin Amsterdams, flooded by drug users seeking penalty-free tokes and toots?
That is the fear, if somewhat overstated, of some Mexican officials, especially in northern border states that serve as a mecca for underage American drinkers.
The Mexican legislature has voted quietly to decriminalize the possession of small amounts of pot, cocaine, methamphetamine and other drugs, an effort that in the past has proved highly controversial.

The WHO cocaine report the US didn't want you to see
The largest ever study of cocaine use around the globe was carried out in the early 90's by the UN World Health Organisation (WHO) and funded by the UN Inter-regional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), but under pressure from the US its publication was suppressed when it became clear the report's findings were in direct conflict with the myths, stereotypes and propaganda that prop up the war on drugs.
