'Emperor of Hemp' Jack Herer Fighting For His Life After Heart Attack At Hempstalk
Noted activist and author Jack Herer, "The Emperor of Hemp," is fighting for his life after giving an impassioned speech at the Portland (OR) HempStalk festival Saturday, Sept 12. Herer left the stage and collapsed with an apparently serious heart attack, according to fellow activist Chris Conrad, who was on the scene.

How marijuana became legal
When Irvin Rosenfeld, 56, picks me up at the Fort Lauderdale airport, his SUV reeks of marijuana. The vice president for sales at a local brokerage firm, Rosenfeld has been smoking 10 to 12 marijuana cigarettes a day for 38 years, he says.
That's probably unusual in itself, but what makes Rosenfeld exceptional is that for the past 27 years, he has been copping his weed directly from the United States government.

How many hits did Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Dock Ellis have to contend with on June 12th, 1970? Depending on your interpretation of the question it was several or none. In an amazing story that is rarely in any baseball highlight reel, Ellis pitched the only LSD induced no-hitter in the history of major league baseball. Let's see Barry Bonds or Alex Rodriguez enhance their game on psychedelics (no really, let's see it!). Dock Ellis was baseball's first true king of performance enhancing drugs. Ah, but wait... there's more. Dock Ellis is probably the only player in history that intentionally tried to injure his opponents during the event usually so full of jocular goodwill, the annual All-Star game. He's one of the few (the only?) to be pepper sprayed by stadium security upon arrival. How many other major leaguers spent their off-season cruising through the ghettos of Haiti in a borrowed jeep in order to find zombies? These are all amazing, yet typical anecdotes from the life of one of baseball's great eccentrics.

Cannabis statt Rente
Der 69-jährige Rentner und seine 59-jährige Gattin wurden von Drogenfahndern auf ihrer Cannabis-Plantage bei Bad Rodach im Landkreis Coburg auf frischer Tat ertappt. Der 69-Jährige wurde an Ort und Stelle festgenommen, seine Ehefrau flüchtete zunächst, stellte sich aber in der Nacht zum Freitag der Polizei. Inzwischen hatte die Polizei die Plantage mit 160 Hanfpflanzen abgeerntet und rund 7 Kilogramm Marihuana sichergestellt.

Spiegel Wahl Soap wärmt alte Kiffer Klisches auf
Der Spiegel versucht mit der Idee einer Wahl Soap den Wahlkampf für uns alle spannender zu gestalten. Dabei kann man nach jeder Folge eine Partei wählen und sehen wie sich das auf den lauf der Dinge "auswirkt". Leider wärmt dabei Spiegel Online das alte Klischee von der psychischen Störung durch Cannabis auf indem behauptet wird, jeder 10. bekomme durch den Konsum Problem und kann nicht mehr arbeiten.

California Cannabis Conference
With the rallying cry, "Yes We Cannibis!," the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws (NORML)) hopes to bring change to America's marijuana policies at their 38th annual national conference. The poster for this year's event, scheduled for Sept 24-26 in San Francisco, is reminiscent of the poster art of the psychedelic sixties with an image of President Obama as a young college freshman smoking a spliff.

Sometimes the biggest signs of epochal change in society are those that are casually mentioned, five paragraphs down in a story. Such was the case with Sunday's four-alarm warehouse fire in Bayview, where fire crews remained yesterday monitoring for flare-ups.
"Marijuana was found growing in one of the buildings," CBS5 reported, "but police Sergeant Wilfred Williams said this morning that the narcotics unit investigation found that the marijuana is being grown legally, 'for medicinal purposes'."
