Many stoned mice


Cairo - Egyptian police found mice running zig-zags on Wednesday after the rodents found their way to a half-ton of confiscated cannabis. Police in the southern town of Qena were planning to burn the cannabis but when they entered the store room at their station they found a number of mice had beaten them there.

$9.3 million in cocaine, heroin found in Peru onion shipment sent to Vidalia


Police found 29 kilos of cocaine and eight kilos of heroin inside the bags, said Toombs County Sheriff Alvie Kight Jr. The heroin seizure is believed to be the largest ever in Georgia, state agents said. Vidalia, in rural southeast Georgia, is known for its famous sweet Vidalia onions. But in the off-season, Vidalia onion growers process imported onions for commercial sale.

Patients, growers sue Feds over medical marijuana raids


Medical marijuana patients and growers sued U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft and Drug Enforcement Administration chief Asa Hutchinson on Wednesday, claiming federal raids are violating their civil rights. The federal lawsuit is both a response to the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling against the Oakland Cannabis Buyers Cooperative last year, and a reaction to recent DEA raids against medical marijuana patients and providers.

Marijuana Found Among Christmas Trees


A load of artificial Christmas trees had some extra greenery. U.S. customs agents directed a tractor trailer carrying the shipment to a thorough inspection after an x-ray inspection detected a dense area.

A total of 1 thousand 900 marijuana filled bundles were found among the tree filled truck. The bust was made at the Bridge of the Americas. The driver fled to Mexico.

Nearly 80 percent of Coast Guard cocaine seizures in Pacific


Nearly 80 percent of the total amount of cocaine seized by the U.S. Coast Guard last fiscal year occurred in the Eastern Pacific Ocean, authorities said Tuesday. The Coast Guard seized 93,417 pounds of cocaine in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. The total amount seized was 117,280 pounds, officials said in a statement.

U.S. will try and strongarm Canada into not relaxing marijuana laws


Canada's marijuana laws worry U.S. American officials caution they may be forced to drastically slow trade across the northern U.S. border if the Canadian government relaxes its marijuana laws. The changes being considered by Prime Minister Jean Chretien's government would make the penalty for getting caught with a joint similar to a traffic ticket.
