Laser spürt Suchtgifte auf
Heroin durch photoakustische Spektroskopie identifiziert. Forschern der Banaras Hindu University in Varanasi ist es gelungen, mit Hilfe der so genannten photoakustischen Spektroskopie Suchtgifte wie Heroin in Pulverform sicher zu identifizieren. Bislang ermöglichte eine Infrarot-Spektroskopie die Detektion dieser Substanzen lediglich in ihrer flüssigen Phase. Die Ergebnisse wurden im Fachblatt Pramana der Indian Academy of Sciences veröffentlicht.

Federal drug agents seize man's state-allowed medical marijuana
The daylight basement in Leroy Stubblefield's Sweet Home area house seems an unlikely battlefield for America's war on drugs.
Stubblefield, a 52-year-old quadriplegic, and two of his caregivers were growing 12 marijuana plants in his basement in a state-licensed operation until Sept. 23, when a federal drug agent seized them in a drug raid. No one was arrested.

'Baby formula' cocaine ring leaders get 10 years in prison
Orville Wilson, 31, and Selena Johnson, 30, were among 48 defendants convicted in the case. Female couriers carrying rented babies and formula cans regularly breezed through customs en route from Panama and Jamaica until a customs inspector in Atlanta opened one of the cans. Inspectors discovered rock heroin in the can and liquid cocaine in others taken from the same courier, who was returning to Chicago from a trip to Panama. Other couriers made trips to England, prosecutors said.

PILOT SAYS 'I WAS HIRED BY THE CIA'
to smuggling £22 million worth of cocaine into Britain
Barrett-Jolley was flying a Boeing 707 plane which landed at Southend airport, Essex, in October 2001. It is alleged six suitcases packed with cocaine were dropped from the aircraft as it taxied along the runway following a tip-off. The case continues.
