Cocaine kills brain's 'pleasure' cells
Repeated cocaine use damages, or even kills, the very brain cells that trigger the "high" users experience, scientists have found.
The drug damages key cells in the brain's pleasure centre.
The researchers say their findings could help explain the process of addiction and could even lead to the development of anti-addiction drugs.

Mexican authorities discover drug tunnel in Tijuana
Mexican federal agents discovered another drug tunnel under construction a block from the U.S. border in Tijuana, federal authorities said Wednesday. Found Tuesday, the partially built tunnel was more than 60 feet deep and 10 feet in diameter, the attorney general's office said in a statement. It ran under a removable section of concrete floor in an empty warehouse adjacent to a home near Otay Mesa, a border crossing for trucks.

Normally, teachers who receive holiday gifts from their young students might be glad for the exchange. On Monday afternoon shortly after 3:30, however, one teacher from the Churchill Head Start Early Childhood Center at 41 Commercial St. called police to report that a 4-year-old girl had presented her teacher with a small bag of marijuana.

"Dröhnende" Pilze
Der Drogenbericht 2002 lässt aufhorchen. Zwar ist der Drogenmissbrauch bei Cannabis-Produkten nach wie vor am höchsten. Doch immer mehr Drogenkonsumenten weichen in den Bereich "legaler" Drogen aus und "dröhnen" sich mit Pilzen und anderen so genannten psychotropen Substanzen zu. Erstmals hat man diesen Bereich genauer unter die Lupe genommen.
