Medical marijuana's side effect: fear
Joan Holland's pain finally received a name in 1988, the summer she went to the beach with her husband and two little girls and kept getting knocked over by the waves. It was diagnosed as multiple sclerosis.
Over the years, the retired schoolteacher has tried seemingly everything, from the traditional to the admittedly wacky, to find even a little bit of comfort.

New Machine Can Detect Drugs Like Dogs
A new invention can sniff like a dog, find drugs like a dog and help police catch criminals like a dog. But can the so-called "Dog on a Chip" replace the police officer's best friend?
Georgia Tech researchers have developed a machine that can instantly sniff out cocaine and other illegal drugs without the hassle of feeding, training and interpreting a police dog.

Reefer Sanity
The brain's cannabinoid receptor is the target of a rush (ha!) to develop new drugs. If you're among those of us who did inhale, you'll recall one of the weed's enjoyable side effects: intense attacks of the munchies that sent you scurrying for baked beans and Moon Pies faster than Pooh after honey. So you may appreciate this tasty irony: Drug companies are racing to develop pills that plug into the same brain-signaling system that once had boomers flying high—this time to help them lose weight.

Stoned criminals not so smooth: arrests likelier
Smoking marijuana doesn't lead to violent crime, but it may lead to more arrests of stoned criminals who engage in acts of violence, according to two economists.
Rosalie Liccardo Pacula of the RAND Corp. and Harvard University graduate student Beau Kilmer found that crooks under the influence of marijuana were more likely to get caught, though pot smokers apparently were no more likely to commit a violent crime in the first place.

'Skittling' New Drug Of Choice For Some Teens
A new trend among young Californians has them getting high from an over-the-counter cold remedy that looks a lot like candy. It's so popular that it even has its own name -- "Skittling." Children call the cold medicine Coricidin "Skittles," "red devils" or "crazy eights" because they come eight to a pack. Doctors say children take the red pills because they make the young people feel -- at the very least -- drunk.

Free Tommy Chong
In a free society, a man should be free to do as he chooses so long as he harms no-one. It is our firm belief that Mr. Chong has harmed no-one, and is being unfairly targeted for prosecution because of his celebrity status. In short, "this sucks", and we won't stand for it. Join our movement to stop this travesty of justice! If you won't stand up for Tommy Chong, who will stand up for you when YOU'RE being unfairly imprisoned??
