Colombia police chief on drug charge
The former head of Colombia's highway police has been arrested, accused of using the men under his command to escort drug shipments around the country. The scandal is just the latest to hit the corruption-ridden Colombian police force.

An appeals court ruled Tuesday that a federal law outlawing marijuana does not apply to sick people who are allowed to smoke pot with a doctor's recommendation.

Pot-or-not case sits as legal clock ticks
A complaint involving the destruction of a crop at first suspected of being marijuana sits idle like fallow ground.
A recent caller to The Sun Herald's anonymous Sound Off column raised the question of progress in the complaint filed on behalf of Marion "Bucky" Waltman, who claims the Harrison County Sheriff's Department destroyed property, including more than 500 kenaf plants grown for deer food, in a raid Sept. 8.

Defendants appearing at the court in Horninglow Street could have been forgiven for thinking the plastic plant was authentic.
The plant is so life-like that defendants attending the court have had to take a second look and even smell its leaves to check it is not real, according to staff.

Marijuana and Sex
First of all, we believe that sex and marijuana use exist completely in the private realm of consenting and responsible adults. We realize, unfortunately, that many politicians see the bedroom and other private, individual activities as important areas for government legislation.

Jokes activate same brain region as cocaine
There's truth in the maxim 'laughter is a drug'. A comic cartoon fired up the same brain centre as a shot of cocaine, researchers are reporting.
A team at Stanford University in California asked lab mates, spouses and friends to select the wittiest newspaper cartoons from a portfolio. They showed the winning array to 16 volunteers while peering inside their heads by functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).
