White House gets tapes of Bush "marijuana" chat
An author who secretly taped conversations in which George W. Bush indicated he had used marijuana has turned the tapes over to the president's private counsel, the White House says.
The White House was irritated last month when Doug Wead released portions of his recorded conversations with Bush from 1998 to 2000, when Bush was governor of Texas and planning his White House run.

Sophisticated border tunnel found linking Mexicali, Calexico
Investigators believe a tunnel found Friday is the most sophisticated to date beneath the California-Mexico border:
A 5-foot-tall passageway with electric and ventilation systems and security cameras leading from a Mexicali residence to a house just across the border in Calexico.

Grandmother, 78, and boyfriend, 72, accused of selling pot
State Police troopers arrested Mollie Williams last week after responding to a domestic dispute between her granddaughter and the granddaughter's husband, who were arguing over drugs. Police learned that the man allegedly had bought marijuana from Williams, State Police Cpl. Larry O'Bryan said Monday.

Chong play stops amid parole violation fears
The Marijuana-Logues has canceled its spring tour after its star, Tommy Chong, was barred from performing in it because audience members were frequently lighting up during the show. Chong, half of the comedy team Cheech & Chong, was in danger of violating his probation, which bars him from being around people using or selling illegal substances. He served nine months in prison last year for conspiring to sell drug paraphernalia.

Swiss cows to come off the grass with cannabis fodder ban
Swiss farmers will no longer be allowed to produce milk or cheese that could be tainted with cannabis, after the Swiss government banned hemp, the plant used to make the drug, from animal fodder. The ban from March 1 covers all types of hemp, a fibrous plant that is also used to make rope and fabric, because the different varieties all contain the psychotropic substance THC, the federal agricultural department said.

Unwary patrons ate in dining room below
Residents of this village south of Owen Sound were in shock yesterday at the news a fine-dining restaurant in their midst housed a large-scale indoor marijuana grow operation and that police have charged the chef/owner and his estranged wife.
"Everyone is surprised, no one had any idea what was going on there," said Bob Elliot, whose hardware store is across the road from The Mill Restaurant, where police seized $600,000 worth of marijuana Tuesday.

JOHN HALPERN clearly remembers what made him change his mind about psychedelic drugs. It was the early 1990s and the young medical student at a hospital in Brooklyn, New York, was getting frustrated that he could not do more to help the alcoholics and addicts in his care. He sounded off to an older psychiatrist, who mentioned that LSD and related drugs had once been considered promising treatments for addiction. "I was so fascinated that I did all this research," Halpern recalls. "I was reading all these papers from the 60s and going, whoa, wait a minute! How come nobody's talking about this?"

Campbell tells Diane Sawyer on ABC's "Primetime Live" that she's glad she recovered, but acknowledges that it's still difficult. The show will air on Thursday.
"It was a rebellion in a certain way. You know?" the British supermodel says. "I don't want to be in that pain again. I don't want to be in that place."
