Cannabis rethink 'not a reversal'
A review of the decision to reclassify cannabis, after studies suggested links with mental illness, is not a policy reversal, the Home Office has said.
It was downgraded in January 2004 after advice from the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs, which will be asked if new research would change its position.

Police arrest teenager for selling marijuana-laced brownies
Police in Florida arrested a student for selling brownies baked with marijuana outside a school cafeteria during lunch time. The student, identified as 18-year-old Andrew Perrault, was selling brownies without authorization for five dollars each.

Woman 'terrified' by effect of marijuana-laced cookie
A 64-year-old woman said Monday that she was terrified by the adverse effects she suffered last month after she unknowingly ate a cookie laced with marijuana.
But the co-worker accused of giving it to her had nothing to say.

How many hits of acid is that? The usual dose of LSD has fallen to about 20 micrograms in recent years, so at that dosage level, Pickard and Apperson possessed 2 billion hits of acid—enough to give every person in the Western Hemisphere two doses and still have 250 million hits left over. As I wrote in my original Slate article, 91 pounds of LSD would be worth between $2 billion and $10 billion on the street.

Police in southeastern Iran on Sunday found 38 kg (84 lb) of opium hidden in the stomach of nine sheep and goats, Iran's official IRNA news agency said.

Money used to buy cocaine, pot was counterfeit
Both drug dealers and the law were after a trio who deputies say printed counterfeit money to buy marijuana and crack cocaine.
Fortunately for the suspects, the law found them first.
Jeremy Randall Johnson, 32, and two 17-year-olds, Kyle David Duncan and Adam Mallett, all of Macclenny, have been charged with felony counterfeiting charges after an investigation into the fake bills, said Chuck Brannan, chief investigator for the Baker County Sheriff's Office.

Cannabis grower asks for more jail time
A Queensland man convicted of possessing and producing cannabis has been jailed at his own request. Campbell asked if he could spend more time in jail to finish a computer training course and start up a chess club.
He was sentenced to three weeks.

Ecstasy trials for combat stress
American soldiers traumatised by fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan are to be offered the drug ecstasy to help free them of flashbacks and recurring nightmares.
The US food and drug administration has given the go-ahead for the soldiers to be included in an experiment to see if MDMA, the active ingredient in ecstasy, can treat post-traumatic stress disorder.

California says no to certifying organic marijuana
Organic pot won't be getting the official seal of approval in California.
State officials have told the Mendocino County agriculture department it can't certify medical marijuana as organic. County officials wanted to know if pot could be labeled organic, like pesticide-free produce.

Cannabis hilft gegen Schmerzen
Zulassung in Großbritannien würde europäischen Markt für Cannabismedikamente öffnen. Trotz der bald 5.000-Jährigen Erfahrung mit der heilenden Wirkung von Cannabis (Cannabis sativa; Hanf) ist die Pflanze im 20. Jahrhundert aufgrund ihrer Verwendung als Droge dämonisiert worden. Dabei könnten seine Wirkstoffe vielleicht den vier Millionen in Europa von chronischen Schmerzen Betroffenen helfen. Für Menschen, die an Multipler Sklerose (MS) leiden, könnte die beantragte Zulassung des Cannabissprays Sativex der britischen Firma GW Pharmaceuticals eine Möglichkeit sein, bald legal die lindernde Wirkung der Pflanze zu erhalten. Aber auch für eine Reihe anderer Patientengruppen könnte es sich als hilfreich erweisen, wenn das Cannabismedikament in Großbritannien zugelassen wird.

Zwölf Menschen sterben nach Raki-Genuss
Im türkischen Istanbul sind zwölf Menschen nach dem Verzehr von minderwertigem Anis-Schnaps gestorben. 30 weitere liegen noch immer mit Vergiftungen in den Krankenhäusern der Stadt. 13 mutmaßliche Schwarzbrenner wurden inzwischen festgenommen.
