Afghan heroin in L.A. and the heroin price collapse

Today's scare story about Afghan heroin in the LA Times — planted by some staffer for Diane Feinstein, the Queen of the Camera Hogs — is much ado about what's really only a little bit of news. In LA County, heroin overdoses are up because purer Afghan stuff is coming in; elsewhere in the country, heroin overdoses are up because the stuff is being spiked with fentanyl. The problem of higher purity is mostly transitional; in steady-state, the risk of an overdose is higher with lower purity, because the chance of a big upside surprise is greater. Someone expecting 10% purity who gets 20% instead might die; someone expecting 80% purity is unlikely to suffer any ill effect if he gets 99% instead. Fentanyl is about five times the potency of heroin, creating enormous overdose risks; given a choice, I'd rather have pure heroin on the street than heroin/fentanyl mixtures.

..... There are three pardonees on the current list with sentences issued ranging from 1982 to 1985 – all for the sale or distribution of cocaine. Canadian Maria Briere sentenced in 1982, served a three-year sentence. George Harley of New Mexico was sentenced in 1984 to 14 years of prison and parole and Pat Hultman of Pennsylvania was sentenced in 1985. Those were all W’s big coke party years and all three of these people dealt in the magic white powder that George and Laura used to love so much. ......

Juggle on Acid

This site is standalone juggling website and an account of the amazing experiences I have had whilst juggling on psychedelics. I do not recommend that anybody take any drugs, legal or illegal and do not intend to influence people to do this. Just because one person experiences something does not mean that others will. Take care of your body and don't take any risks, I am not responsible for your actions.

Pot is called biggest cash crop

The $35-billion market value of U.S.-grown cannabis tops that of such heartland staples as corn and hay, a marijuana activist says.

For years, activists in the marijuana legalization movement have claimed that cannabis is America's biggest cash crop. Now they're citing government statistics to prove it.

A report released today by a marijuana public policy analyst contends that the market value of pot produced in the U.S. exceeds $35 billion — far more than the crop value of such heartland staples as corn, soybeans and hay, which are the top three legal cash crops.

California is responsible for more than a third of the cannabis harvest, with an estimated production of $13.8 billion that exceeds the value of the state's grapes, vegetables and hay combined — and marijuana is the top cash crop in a dozen states, the report states.

The report estimates that marijuana production has increased tenfold in the past quarter century despite an exhaustive anti-drug effort by law enforcement.

Is Life in Prison Excessive for Smoking Pot?

The Drug War Chronicle reports that pressure is building for Texas Gov. Rick Perry to commute the sentence of Tyrone Brown, who was sentenced to life in prison for smoking pot. In 1990, when he was 17, Brown took part in a $2 robbery in which the victim was not physically injured, a crime for which he received 10 years of probation. A few weeks later, he tested positive for marijuana, and the judge not only revoked his probation but inexplicably resentenced him to a life term.

The cocaine you're snorting today was in an 81-year-old woman's underwear yesterday

If there were any doubts, federal authorities say, a kilo of cocaine that agents found in the underwear of 81-year-old Josefina Campos solidified a case targeting a large smuggling ring centered in San Antonio and Floresville.

Campos' arrest Nov. 28 is but a piece of a puzzle that became more complete Wednesday as officials announced they had smashed a drug-smuggling cell that netted seizures of more than 210 kilograms of cocaine and $4.5 million in cash.
