Former Narcs Say Drug War is Futile
The slender, mustachioed man of middle-age frequently wears a cowboy hat, and has been known to get around town on a horse. He also wears a black shirt with loud, conspicuous lettering on both the front and back. You'd be forgiven to dismiss him as a religious zealot proclaiming the coming apocalypse, or a disciple of Lyndon Larouche.
But look closer. The shirt reads: "COPS SAY LEGALIZE DRUGS: ASK ME WHY."
And people do.

Should Illegal Drugs Be Taxed?
In April of 2005, Jeremy Robbins was arrested attempting to traffic two tons of marijuana from Arizona to East Tennessee. Indicted on federal drug conspiracy charges, Robbins was soon assessed a $1.1 million fine from Tennessee's Department of Revenue. The reason: failure to comply with the state's Unauthorized Substances Tax, which requires anyone in possession of a certain quantity of contraband — in the case of marijuana, more than 42.5 grams — to buy a tax stamp from the state government and affix it on the drug.

Drug Tax Stamps
Many people want to legalize, regulate, and tax marijuana and other drugs, however, few know that many U.S. states are content simply to tax. In fact, even the federal government wants a share, and used tax stamps in early prohibition, but only the states have recently issued issued cool stamps (be sure to click "exhibit"). The point, of course, is not to actually tax the drugs, but to penalize the drug dealers for tax evasion as well as drug sales.

Study questions "gateway" theory of drug abuse
The findings call into question the "gateway" hypothesis - that is, that youths at risk of drug abuse progress from using alcohol and cigarettes to illegal "soft" drugs like marijuana to "hard" drugs like cocaine and heroin, Dr. Ralph E. Tarter of the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy and colleagues write in the American Journal of Psychiatry.

Warning issued over cannabis adulterated with glass beads
Drug campaigners have warned that a batch of cannabis adulterated with tiny glass beads which they say could pose a risk to health has flooded the UK market. Anecdotal reports suggest it is being sold in almost every part of the country.
The charity Drugscope is issuing a warning. "We want to make people aware of it from a public health point of view. If you are smoking this stuff and taking it into your lungs it's not good news."

WILLIAM S. BURROUGHS - 1957 Rare Offprint - Ed. of 50
After publishing the fictionalized autobiography Junkie under the pseudonym William Lee," Burroughs contributed a non-fiction account of his wide-ranging drug use to the venerable British Journal of Addiction, an obscure medical journal. At his request, the Journal sent Burroughs fifty (50) copies of a stapled offprint of the article. Burroughs was, at the time, living in Tangiers and furthering his "drug research;" thus it is likely that far fewer than fifty copies survive to this day

PC World Mag Editor Killed
Rex Farrance was a popular senior editor at PC World magazine in San Francisco, a physical-fitness buff and a family man known for his enthusiasm for life and his sensitivity to others, friends say.
But according to police, Farrance, 59, was involved with illegal drugs and possibly dealing them along with his wife at their Pittsburg home. The activity, police said Wednesday, led to a home-invasion robbery Tuesday night in which Farrance was killed and his wife, a registered nurse, was pistol-whipped.

Paul McCartney On Drugs
The Beatles titan recently claimed, allegedly during a talk with friend and self-proclaimed “king of bitter divorces” Alec Baldwin a few days ago, that he has grown physically sick from the latest charges by his estranged wife in their divorce proceedings. (Her latest claim is that he stole paintings by Picasso and Renoir from their once-shared lodge.) But, let us revisit for a moment one of the more interesting charges leveled by Heather against Paul, shall we? Let us return to the drugs.

Fox News reporter says Bush admitted using cocaine, then retreats, citing, 'questions'
As political media buzzed about whether or not Senator Barack Obama's admission eleven years ago that he used cocaine as a teenager would hurt his political prospects, Fox News ran a segment on "Obama's Cocaine Confession." Their conversation took an unusual turn, however, when Fox reporter Kirian Chetry said President Bush had also admitted to using cocaine.
