Mexican drug gangs slug it out on YouTube
Warning: graphic content A bloody war between rival Mexican drug gangs has spilled onto YouTube where two competing cartels "taunt each other with blood-soaked slideshows and films of their murder victims", Reuters reports.
The war between north eastern Mexico's "Gulf Cartel" - with its private army "Los Zetas", led by Osiel Cardenas, and "traffickers based in the western state of Sinaloa" headed by Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman - last year claimed more than 2,000 victims.

Cannabis stronger now 'than in the 70s'
An increase in intensive indoor cannabis cultivation in the UK since David Cameron's schooldays is widely believed to have increased the availability of more potent varieties.
Some high-profile reports have said that modern cannabis is now 10 or even 20 times stronger than that available in the 1970s.

Teacher Snorts Drugs In Front Of Kids
Police said a substitute teacher accused of snorting cocaine in front of her fourth-grade pupils will face charges that could send her to jail for up to three years.
Lewiston-Porter School District substitute Joan M. Donatelli, 59, has been charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

The war on drugs is the stupidest war on earth
Last week Nato defence ministers met in Seville to review the coming spring offensive in Afghanistan. It was like Great War generals dining in Versailles to discuss the trenches. The new Nato commander, US General John Craddock, asked for 2,000 more troops. Just one more push and the Taliban would be defeated, the Afghan army readied to fight, the opium dealers arrested and more aid committed to reconstruction. It was as simple as that. Anyone for paella?

Pot Prisoners Cost Americans $1 Billion a Year
The latest numbers are out: nearly 800,000 Americans were arrested on marijuana charges in 2005. When will the insanity stop?
American taxpayers are now spending more than a billion dollars per year to incarcerate its citizens for pot. That's according to statistics recently released by the U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Statistics.

Blame global warming. An Albany, N.Y., man is accused of riding nude in a gondola at Stratton Mountain Resort on Dec. 15. William N. Barrett III, 46, pleaded not guilty to felony lewd and lascivious conduct and misdemeanor marijuana possession Tuesday in Vermont District Court.

For decades, marijuana advocates have been fighting for justice. Today alcohol is still the only recreational drug to ever escape prohibition, mainly because of extreme violence and health concerns while illegal. Marijuana, however, has had to continuously fight the legal battle. Drugmaker to test fat-fighting marijuana drug
Britain's GW Pharmaceuticals Plc said Tuesday it plans to start human trials of an experimental treatment for obesity derived from cannabis.
Cannabis is commonly associated with stimulating hunger. Several other companies, including Sanofi-Aventis with Acomplia, are working on new drugs that try to switch off the brain circuits that make people hungry when they smoke it.
