Informer role 'protected drug traffickers'
Some of Britain's leading heroin smuggling suspects were protected from police investigations because they were working as informers for Customs, the BBC has been told.
In one case in 2001, Foreign Office diplomats moved to secure the release of an informer held in Germany on a warrant from the Greek authorities.

Marijuana, the wonder drug
A new study in the journal Neurology is being hailed as unassailable proof that marijuana is a valuable medicine. It is a sad commentary on the state of modern medicine that we still need "proof" of something that medicine has known for 5,000 years.

Boutique receives two buckets of marijuana
Workers at a downtown boutique called police after unexpectedly receiving two buckets of marijuana worth $90,000. Police were called to Fusion on Saturday after employees received the two packages of marijuana totaling about 20 pounds.

Drug smugglers get four years in prison
A group of drug smugglers who were caught in the act bringing three tons of cannabis resin onto an Almuñécar beach have each been sentenced to four years in prison at their trial in Granada. They have also been ordered to pay a fine of 9 million €.

This month sees the updated republication, after 20 years, of The Brotherhood of Eternal Love by David May and Stewart Tendler, the book that charted the history of the LSD counter-culture and the so-called Brotherhood that distributed it so energetically in the 60s and 70s. The book's epilogue brings us up to date with the surviving members of the tale.

Insgesamt ist in dem am Montag präsentierten Drogenbericht des Innenministeriums zwar von einem leichten Rückgang beschlagnahmter Substanzen die Rede. Im Detail zeigt sich allerdings: Einige Drogen erfreuen sich immer größerer Beliebtheit. Bei LSD und Amphetaminen ist ein Anstieg von Hunderten Prozentpunkten zu verzeichnen. Es wurde auch mehr Cannabis sichergestellt.

Jail for man who smuggled cocaine hidden in doors
A former public schoolboy who masterminded a £3m plot to smuggle wooden doors impregnated with liquid cocaine into Britain was jailed yesterday for 18 years. Paul Sneath, 24, of Guildford, Surrey, came up with a "unique" plot using sheets of plywood, liquid cocaine, industrial solvent, and cheese graters.
