Texas Lotto Winner Nabbed in Coke Bust


Jose Luis Betancourt had a huge stroke of luck just before Christmas when his Lotto Texas ticket matched all six numbers, netting him a $7.5 million prize.

But his luck ran out less than a month later when U.S. Customs agents found 1.63 kilograms of cocaine hidden in the dishwasher and pantry of his apartment, according to officials.

Woman drove car with 27 dogs


An animal lover had 27 dogs in her car including one on her lap when she was stopped by police on a dual carriageway, a court heard.

Barbara Byrne, 60, was also smoking and holding a can of drink between her thighs, Huntingdon magistrates were told.

Drivers License Suspended 296 Times


A Long Island man stopped by police after allegedly failing to obey a stop sign was found to have 296 suspensions on his driving record, police said.

Marion Williams, 49, was driving south on Park Avenue early Monday when he allegedly ignored the stop sign. When officers called in to headquarters with his name, it was determined that his license had been suspended 296 times.

Sex shop customer freed by firefighters


A customer got more than she bargained for when she visited a sex shop in Wolverhampton. The woman became trapped in a set of handcuffs and had to be freed by firefighters. An engine with six officers were called to the store to help the embarrassed woman.

Shopper's epic journey to return scent


Annie Barden mistakenly bought the men's version of her favourite fragrance at the upmarket store Tiffany and Co.

When she phoned the London branch they told her they could not exchange goods from abroad.

The 47-year-old from Southampton then decided to make the 3,000-mile trip back to New York to change the £65 bottle of Tiffany's own brand scent in person.

Motorist runs out of gas; tank's full of marijuana


A sheriff's deputy who assisted two women and five children in a van after it ran out of gas here found there wasn't enough room in the tank because it was full of marijuana.

Eddy County sheriff's deputy Kelly Calicoat was dispatched to a location near the New Mexico-Texas state line Wednesday to help a motorist who ran out of gas.

Burglars vandalize home, slip up by videotaping the crime


Two Lackawanna men were charged Tuesday with burglary after police said they stole items from a home on Christmas Eve, trashed the residence with graffiti and food, then incriminated themselves in a videotape that they made. Michael Duda, 20, of Wood Street, and Steven Jadynak, 18, of Maryknoll Drive, were charged with one count each of burglary, criminal mischief and petit larceny, Lackawanna police said. A third man is still being sought.

LOL Virginia Bank Robbery Goes Awry


First he left a telling trail of $100 bills as he tried to stuff the money in his pockets and, when this bank robber reached his getaway car, he found the keys had been locked inside. It didn't get any better Wednesday for the masked man who entered the Union Bank & Trust north of Richmond.

Miss Drunk Contest Is Held in Thailand


Most people would hate to be called a drunk, but Thailand's Arunothai Sriaran is wearing the epithet like a crown.

Arunothai was named "Miss Drunk" at a contest Thursday to promote Thai wines after downing five shots and walking a zigzag path between two rows of wine bottles without knocking them down.

"I was not drunk. Only a little bit dizzy. I was fine and refreshed after a cup of coffee and washing my face," Arunothai told The Associated Press on Friday.

Using Car as Meth Lab


Two men were arrested on drug charges after security guards at a Wal-Mart spotted them buying boxes of a base ingredient for the narcotic methamphetamine, which police say the men were cooking up in their car.

Keith Simmons, 27, of Edgewater and Ronald Gross, 34, of Oak Hill were charged with possession with intent to sell, manufacture of methamphetamine and possession of listed ingredients for manufacture of methamphetamine, said Lake City police Capt. Gary Laxton.
