Pirated Dvds 'More Lucrative Than Drugs'
DVD piracy is more profitable than drug trafficking, a new report claimed today.
One kilo of pirated discs is worth more than one kilo of cannabis resin.
Terrorists, people traffickers and paramilitaries are among the organised crime groups behind the £500 million industry, according to Interpol.
Now a new anti-piracy campaign has been launched to warn off consumers.

Mix, Burn & R.I.P.

It seems that Capitol Records has some sort of new copy protection system, that automatically, silently, installs “helpful” copy protection software on MacOS and Windows as soon as you insert the CD into default systems.

Music Industry Seeks Digital Radio Copying Limits
Digital radio broadcasts that bring CD-quality sound to the airwaves could lead to unfettered song copying if protections are not put in place, a recording-industry trade group warned on Friday. Without copy protections, music fans could cherry-pick songs off the air and redistribute them over the Internet, further deepening the copyright woes of record labels, the Recording Industry Association of America said.

RIAA wants your fingerprints
Not content with asking for an arm and a leg from consumers and artists, the music industry now wants your fingerprints, too. The RIAA is hoping that a new breed of music player which requires biometric authentication will put an end to file sharing.
Established biometric vendor Veritouch has teamed up with Swedish design company to produce iVue: a wireless media player that allows content producers to lock down media files with biometric security. This week Veritouch announced that it had demonstrated the device to the RIAA and MPAA.

Saugen, was die Leitung hält
