Ein europäisches Patent auf Sperma
Ein im November 2003 erteiltes europäisches Patent auf menschliches Sperma wurde bei Durchsicht der Akten des Europäischen Patentamtes von Greenpeace entdeckt.
Ebenso wie grundsätzlich nicht patentierbare Software im Rahmen einer technischen Erfindung doch patentfähig werden soll, wurde laut Greenpeace von Patentierbarkeit explizit ausgeschlossenes menschliches Sperma zusammen mit der Behandlungsmethode mitpatentiert.

RSA Security to support for OMA DRM 2.0
RSA Security Inc. plans to offer a standards-based solution for digital rights management (DRM) that represents a consumer-friendly alternative to the DRM methods currently deployed by several major digital content providers.
The RSA Security DRM solution will leverage open standards such as the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) DRM 2.0 and the Open Digital Rights Language (ODRL) Version 1.1.

US judge strikes down bootleg law
A judge has struck down a law which bans the sale of bootleg recordings of live music in the United States.
Judge Harold Baer Jr, sitting in New York, dismissed charges against a Manhattan-based record dealer which had been brought under the law. He said the law could not stand because it placed no time limit on the ban - unlike the limits placed on books or recorded music releases. Prosecutors said they were "reviewing the decision" the judge made.

Warez-Razzia bei Münchner Rechtsanwalt
Im Rahmen einer groß angelegten Polizeiaktion durchsuchten Ermittler am heutigen Donnerstag Nachmittag eine Münchner Anwaltskanzlei, die in der IT-Branche durch fragwürdige Abmahnungen wegen Verletzung gewerblicher Schutzrechte bekannt geworden ist. Die Razzia fand im Zuge eines Schlags gegen professionelle Anbieter von Raubkopien statt, der vom Landeskriminalamt (LKA) Thüringen koordiniert wurde. Die Spurensicherung beschlagnahmte Computer und Akten.

Pentagon censors 'Right to Know' video
The Defense Department spent $70,500 to produce a Humphrey Bogart-themed video called The People's Right to Know to teach employees to respond to citizen requests for information. But when it came to showing the tape to the public, the Pentagon censored some of the footage.
Officials said they blacked out parts of the training video with the message, "copyrighted material removed for public viewing," because they were worried the government didn't have legal rights to some historical footage that was included.

Seid gegrüßt, Piratenbrüder und Raubkumpanen! Arrrr!Ich bin heute hier, um mit euch über Urheberrecht, Technologie und DRM (Digital Rights Management) zu reden, ich arbeite für die Electronic Frontier Foundation an Urheberrechtskram (größtenteils), und ich wohne in London. Ich bin kein Anwalt – ich bin eine Art Sprachrohr / Aktivist, obwohl die mich gelegentlich in meinen Bar Mitzvah Anzug stopfen und zur Normungsorganisation oder zur UN schicken, um Ärger anzuzetteln. Ich verbringe etwa drei Wochen pro Monat damit, die seltsamsten Sachen zu machen, zum Beispiel zu Microsoft zu gehen und über DRM zu reden. Ich führe ein Doppelleben: Ich bin nämlich auch Science Fiction Autor. Das bedeutet, dass ich unglaublich parteiisch bin, weil ich davon Träume, als Autor meinen Lebensunterhalt zu verdienen, seit ich 12 bin. Zugegebenermaßen, mein IP-basiertes Geschäft ist nicht so groß wie eures, aber ich kann euch versichern, dass mir meins so wichtig ist wie euers euch.
Euch von dem hier zu überzeugen bin ich hier:
- Dass DRM Systeme nicht funktionieren.
- Dass DRM Systeme schlecht für die Gesellschaft sind.
- Dass DRM Systeme schlecht fürs Geschäft sind.
- Dass DRM Systeme schlecht für Künstler sind.
- Dass DRM ein schlechter Schachzug für MSFT ist.

JibJab beats copyright rap
A music company claiming to own the rights to Woody Guthrie's "This Land is Your Land" may have gotten more than it bargained for when it took on JibJab Media, the Web animators behind a wildly popular parody of the U.S. presidential campaign.
The animators on Tuesday beat back copyright infringement charges leveled at their work, which was based on the tune. Attorneys for the company also said they had found evidence that the copyright on Guthrie's song expired in 1973, meaning that anyone can use it for free.

Filmindustrie lässt "Raubkopierer im Knast Probesitzen"
Die Initiative Zukunft Kino Marketing (ZKM) geht mit ihrer heftig umstrittenen Kampagne "Raubkopierer sind Verbrecher" während des Sommers auf große Überlandfahrt. "Knast on Tour" hat die Interessensvertretung der Filmindustrie ihren neuen Marketing-Gag zum "Schutz des Originals" genannt. Im Rahmen der Aktion, die am heutigen Mittwoch am Potsdamer Platz in Berlin startete und über den August hinweg in den Städten Hamburg, Essen, Düsseldorf, Köln, Frankfurt und München Station machen wird, können Unerschrockene Gefängnisluft schnuppern. Dafür hat die Initiative eine Knastzelle nachgebaut, die spartanisch mit einem Feldbett und einer Toilette bestückt ist. Sie wird von mehreren "Sicherheitsleuten" in Cop-Uniformen bewacht. In dem "authentischen" Umfeld sollen Interessierte "fünf Minuten im Leben eines Raubkopierers nachempfinden", melden die Kampagnenmacher.

Time to dump MP3s?
There is no reason to defend MP3, no reason why everyone who currently listens to MP3s stored on their hard drive should not move to something significantly better. The resulting files were small enough to be traded over the net, and MP3 was the format used by Napster and other file-sharing and peer-to-peer networks in the late 1990's. It is still the one format that almost anything will play, a fact that has given it a lease of life it really does not deserve.
There are many things wrong with MP3 and only one thing right.
The right thing is that it does not come with any form of digital rights management.
