Recording Industry Says Irish ISPs Shouldn't Protest If It Demands Pirate Bay Block
Irish ISP Eircom recently settled a lawsuit with the recording industry. The lawsuit itself was an oddity -- as it was the first time we could recall the industry actually suing an ISP over charges related to file sharing. The settlement, though, was quite troubling, as Eircom agreed to kick file sharers off the internet via a "three strikes" plan, despite the fact that many countries in Europe have said that it doesn't make sense to kick users off the internet -- and may actually be a violation of their civil rights.

Day 3 - The Pirate Bay’s ‘King Kong’ Defense
The Pirate Bay trial is moving forward rapidly and again the day in court has ended early. On the third day the prosecution presented the amended charges. The defendants all called for acquittal while Carl Lundström’s lawyer scored points with the already legendary ‘King Kong’ defense.

Am dritten Tag der Verhandlung gegen das Tracker-Informationsportal The Pirate Bay (TPB) wurden grundlegende Fragen aufgeworfen, die seit langem einer Klärung durch Gerichte bedürfen. Gerade deswegen wurde der Prozess auch unter anderem von der englischen Times als Internet Piraten Prozess des Jahrzehnts bezeichnet.

Abba star slates 'lazy, stingy' Pirate Bay fans
Former Abba guitar player Björn Ulvaeus has hit out at supporters of The Pirate Bay and accused them of fighting for “the ‘freedom’ to be lazy and stingy”.
His harsh remarks came yesterday after the shock decision by the prosecution in the The Pirate Bay case to drop all charges of copyright infringement against the infamous BitTorrent site.

Pirate Bay joy at charge change
Half of the charges levelled at the founders of the Pirate Bay file-sharing site have been dropped.
Swedish prosecutors dropped charges relating to "assisting copyright infringement" leaving the lesser charges of "assisting making available copyright material" on trial day two.

The creators of the Pirate Bay documentary "Steal This Film" have released footage from their next installment in honor of the trial of the Pirate Bay's founders (yesterday's hearings ended with a bang, when the prosecution dropped half the charges -- the more serious half -- after realizing they couldn't make the case stick).

Der Prozess habe Signalwirkung, weil Schweden bisher Vorreiter bei der "Freiheit der Inhalte" gewesen sei. Weil "The Pirate Bay" selbst kein urheberrechtlich geschütztes Material zum Download bereitstelle, sondern nur Nutzer mit anderen Nutzern verbinde, sei es folgerichtig, die Angeklagten freizusprechen. Horn sagte, die Plattform sei "schützenswert", es würden dort auch "zahllose legale Inhalte" getauscht. Wenn einzelne Nutzer dort Unsinn trieben, müsse sich die Film- und Musikindustrie an diese wenden.

50% of Charges Against Pirate Bay Dropped
According to TorrentFreak, half of the charges against The Pirate Bay have already been dropped due to lack of evidence. Therefore, the prosecutor has dropped all charges related to “assisting copyright infringement,” with the remaining charges being related to “assisting making available.”

Die in Frankreich erdachte „Mission Olivenne“ sieht eine Internet-Zugangssperre für diejenigen Nutzer vor, die nach dreimaliger Mahnung durch ihren Provider beim Download illegaler Dateien „erwischt“ wurden. Das Verfahren ist auch unter der Beschreibung „3 strikes and you’re out“ bekannt geworden.
