The Pirate Bay Will Close Its Tracker and Remove Torrents (Updated)
Alongside the news that The Pirate Bay will sell shares on the Swedish stock market come some other significant changes. The site itself will decentralize and stop hosting and tracking torrents. Instead, The Pirate Bay will use a third party tracker and torrent hosting service to serve its users.

Schwedische IT-Firma kauft The Pirate Bay
Die schwedische IT-Firma Global Gaming Factory hat angekündigt, die Website The Pirate Bay zum Preis von umgerechnet 5,5 Millionen Euro übernehmen zu wollen. Auf der alten Piraten-Domain soll ein neues Vertriebssystem für digitale Medieninhalte entstehen. Die alte Pirate Bay ist damit wohl Geschichte.

The Pirate Bay Sold For $7.8 Million
Today, Swedish software company Global Gaming Factory X AB has announced it has acquired The Pirate Bay website for 60 million SEK, which is roughly the equivalent of 7.8 million dollars.
This was almost immediately confirmed by The Pirate Bay. Although the title of their post is entitled “TPB might change owner,” from the text of the post it is obvious that the site has indeed been sold.

Pirate Bay retrial denied; judge declared "unbiased"
A Swedish court ruled today that the judge overseeing The Pirate Bay trial earlier this year was not biased by belonging to various pro-copyright organizations. The unanimous decision (Swedish) means that there will be no retrial; the defendants must hope for a successful appeal instead.

Die schwedischen Behörden allerdings, behauptet der oberste Piratenjäger Tim Kuik, könnten die Angeklagten nicht finden. Deshalb will er sie über das Internet auf den Prozess aufmerksam machen: "Man kann die Angeklagten auf Facebook und Twitter finden. Das Internet dient Strafverfolgern genauso wie Rechtsverletzern. Jetzt wissen sie von der Gerichtsverhandlung in den Niederlanden", sagte Kuik.

The Dutch anti-piracy outfit BREIN has summoned The Pirate Bay’s founders to court through Twitter and Facebook. Emboldened by recent events in Sweden, BREIN is demanding a total blackout of the site in the Netherlands and has scheduled a court hearing for July 21st.

Rapidshare Ordered To Filter Content
TorrentFreak reports that the Regional Court in Hamburg, Germany, has ruled that file-hosting service Rapidshare must proactively filter certain content. Music industry outfit GEMA asked the court to ban Rapidshare from making 5,000 tracks from its catalogue available on the Internet.

Die Geschworenen in Minneapolis befanden Thomas-Rasset des Verstoßes gegen das Urheberrecht für schuldig. Vor dem Gerichtssaal sagte die 32-Jährige am Donnerstag, sie werde niemals in der Lage sein, die Millionenstrafe zu zahlen. "Ich bin eine Mutter mit begrenzten Mitteln, also mache ich mir darüber jetzt keine Sorgen." Eine Sprecherin der Vereinigung der Plattenindustrie RIAA erklärte, die Kläger seien zu einer Einigung bereit. Eine Summe nannte sie nicht.
