The Netbook Hackintosh Video Apple Made Wired Take Down

Gadget Lab writer and Giz friend Brian X. Chen said earlier today via Twitter that Apple "is suing Wired for my video tutorial on hacking netbooks to run Mac OS X." Updated.

Update 2: Wired got back to us. The official story is that they're not being sued, it was just a misunderstanding by Chen. But Wired has pulled the video after reviewing Apple's complaint about it.

Installing the Windows 7 Beta with Virtual PC 2007 SP1

Yesterday we made the Windows 7 Beta available for public download. Hopefully you’re as excited as I am that the beta is here! 2008's biggest tech crime stories

Underground botnet markets and high-profile spam cases headlined the year in tech crime. One of the most disturbing cybercrime trends in 2008, many security analysts say, has been the emergence of a full-blown underground economy where credit card information, identity theft information, and spam and phishing software are all available for relatively low prices. 2008 also saw major developments in the cases against three major spammers in the United States.

The power of OS X hot keys unlocked

When I kicked off Mac Secrets, the first thing I looked at was "a better way to build OS X preferences." In this installment, I'll be looking at various undocumented aspects of PreferencePanes.framework that happen to be a documented framework.

Moreover, the stuff I'm looking at has got nothing to do with preference panes! Confused? Let me explain.

Hack of the Clones: Why Apple Can't Stop the Copies

Just hours after announcing plans to sell a high-end Mac clone, niche electronics reseller EFIX USA changed course in order to avoid a nasty legal confrontation with Apple.

"We certainly don't want to get into a legal battle that's over a couple thousand dollars," an EFIX USA spokesman said. "Potentially Apple could have a legal issue there. They may not have a legal issue, but with all the money they have they might try to make one."

Too good to ignore: 6 alternative browsers

When Microsoft, Mozilla or Apple comes out with a new version of Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari, it makes news -- mainly because most of us use one or more of these three Web browsers. In fact, with the exception of Google's Chrome (which made a big splash, mostly because it came from Google), most of the alternative browsers out there tend to get lost in the shuffle.
