Microsoft suffers Longhorn loss
Pirated versions of Microsoft's next generation computer operating system are on sale in Malaysia, more than a year before the official release date.
The software, codenamed Longhorn, is on sale in Johor Baru, a city in southern Malaysian, costing less than $2.

End draws nearer for Moore’s Law
Moore’s Law, as chip manufacturers generally refer to it today, is coming to an end, according to a recent research paper. GRANTED, THAT END likely won’t come for about two decades, but Intel researchers have recently published a paper theorizing that chipmakers will hit a wall when it comes to shrinking the size of transistors, one of the chief methods for making chips that are smaller, more powerful and cheaper than their predecessors.

Fotofinish und Skandale bei der Schachcomputer-Weltmeisterschaft
In Graz endete heute die im Rahmen der Computerspiel-Olympiade ausgetragene Schachweltmeisterschaft der Computer. Das Programm Shredder, das auch die schwedische Computerschach-Rangliste mit deutlichem Vorsprung anführt, schlug im Stichkampf das durch die Matches gegen Kramnik und Kasparow bekannte Programm Fritz mit 1,5 zu 0,5.

Heute Rechensaurier besuchen
Am heutigen Samstag, dem 29.11., lädt das Museumsrechenzentrum von Cray-Cyber.org von 12 bis 18 Uhr zum bislang zweiten Tag der offenen Tür ein. Adresse: Stäblistr. 10b, 81477 München. Der Eintritt ist frei.
Besucher können laufende Großrechner aus verschiedenen Epochen der Computertechnik bewundern. Zu den bekannten Herzstücken der Sammlung gehören eine flüssiggekühlte Control Data Cyber 860 aus dem Jahr 1982, eine Cyber 960 von 1986 sowie eine Cray Y-MP EL von 1991. Nachdem die Räume des Museumsrechenzentrums Anfang des laufenden Jahres renoviert wurden, konnten neue Exponate die Sammlung bereichern, darunter eine NEC SX4B/2A und eine Control Data 4680MP.

This project was created to make a visual representation of a space that is very much one-dimensional, a metaphysical universe. The data represented and collected here serves a multitude of purposes: Modeling the Internet, analyzing wasted IP space, IP space distribution, detecting the result of natural disasters, weather, war, and esthetics/art. Ganz ohne goßes Tamtam wurde der Kernel 2.4.23 bereitgestellt. Zufällig habe ich die neue Version auf dem ftp Mirror entdeckt.

A new Trojan is doing the rounds, using the promise of pornographic pictures in an attempt to take over a user's PC.
Sysbug, which comes with the subject line of 'Re[2] Mary', pretends to be a personal email from a friend called James who has attached photographic evidence of a recent tryst.

Jon Lech Johansen war wieder am Werk: Der Hacker, der vor Jahren als Erster den Kopierschutz für DVDs knackte, nahm diesmal Apples iTunes-Shop ins Visier. Mit seinem Programm "QTFairUse" lassen sich "kostenlos" Lieder aus dem Angebot vervielfältigen.

Apple's Tablet Computer Might Finally Be That Link Between Your PC and TV
Quanta, the Taiwanese company that makes many Apple notebooks, has been apparently switching its production to the new tablets, or at least that has been reported in the Taipei press since early this year. If this is the case that Apple is introducing such a machine as early as January, how is it likely to be different from the Windows-based tablet machines that have so far failed to excite buyers?
