Falsche URLs auch unter Mozilla
Der Webbrowser Mozilla zeigt manipulierte Links im Status-Bar nicht vollständig an. Ähnlich wie beim URL-Spoofing im Internet Explorer sorgt bei Mozilla nun die Zeichenkette "%00" dafür, dass nur der Teil eines Links (beispielsweise bei www.mozilla.org%00@www.heisec.de) bis zum "@"-Zeichen erscheint. Allerdings ist bei Mozilla nur die Voransicht in der unteren Status-Bar des Browser-Fensters betroffen, nicht aber die Anzeige in der Adress-Leiste bei Click auf den Link.

Opera unter Windows bis einschließlich Version 7.22 betroffen
Die Site Operash weist auf einen Fehler im Web-Browser Opera hin, der es Angreifern erlaubt, beliebige Dateien auf einem anfälligen System zu löschen. Betroffen ist Opera für Windows in der Version 7 bis einschließlich 7.22.

Microsoft geht in einem Knowledge-Base-Artikel auf das kürzlich gefundene Sicherheitsproblem ein, das es Angreifern ermöglicht, Internet-Explorer-Nutzern gefälschte URLs unterzuschieben. Konstrukte in einem Link wie www.microsoft.com%01@www.heisec.de gaukeln Anwendern vor, dass sie sich auf der Seite www.micorosft.com befinden, obwohl eigentlich die Seite www.heisec.de angezeigt wird -- die Adressbar des Internet Explorer unterschlägt den Teil vor dem @. Macht PowerPoint blöd?
Weltweit sind ungefähr 400 Millionen Exemplare von Microsofts Präsentations-Software PowerPoint im Einsatz. Der US-Computerwissenschaftler Edward Tufte ist der Meinung, dass diese Programm seine Nutzer potentiell verblödet. Er begründet das mit der komprimierten Art, in der Informationen in den .ppt-Dateien wiedergegeben werden. Diese erziehe die Menschen dazu, Texte zu überfliegen und Listen zu vertrauen, nicht mehr dem eigenen Menschenverstand.

PowerPoint Makes You Dumb
In August, the Columbia Accident Investigation Board at NASA released Volume 1 of its report on why the space shuttle crashed. As expected, the ship's foam insulation was the main cause of the disaster. But the board also fingered another unusual culprit: PowerPoint, Microsoft's well-known ''slideware'' program.

New PC T-Cube as small as an Orange
At the TRON 2004 Show Japanese Personal Media Company shows off the T-Cube a pocket-size PC running T-Engine.
T-Engine is somekind of OS standardization project for networked computers in Japan that started in 2002. Seems they want to build something that does not require to license Windows. Don't know why they not just adopt Linux.

IBM unveils plans to give away free computers
NOBODY in the UK need ever pay for a personal computer again - from this week new IBM models will be delivered free of charge to any home that wants one.
In a move that will send shivers through the PC manufacturing and retailing sectors, US computing giant IBM is working with British start-up company Metronomy to supply a free IBM PC, which would otherwise retail for around £800, to every household in Britain.

Microsoft stoppt Lindows in Schweden
Ein Gericht in Stockholm hat es dem Softwareunternehmen Lindows.com untersagt, die Namen Lindows, Lindows.com und Lindows.OS nach dem 26. Januar weiter in Schweden zu nutzen.
