The Macintosh's Twisted Truth
This month is the 20th anniversary of Apple's Macintosh. To mark the occasion, Wired News is running several stories this week about the groundbreaking machine, the people who created it and the Mac's impact on computing and culture in general. Apple's CEO Steve Jobs and the Macintosh are inextricably linked in the minds of most people. So it may come as a surprise to learn the Mac wasn't his idea at all.

Apache grew far more rapidly in 2003 than its nearest rival, Microsoft's Internet Information Services, according to a new survey--meaning that the open-source software remains by far the most widely used Web server on the Internet.

Tiny hard drive packs a big punch
You could soon be able to store much more on an MP3 player, digital camera or mobile phone.
Toshiba has developed a tiny hard drive which measures less than an inch across but can hold between two and four gigabytes of data.

Microsoft launches Linux-crunching campaign
Microsoft has launched a campaign touting research and case studies that it claims prove 'Windows has a lower total cost of ownership and outperforms Linux'.
If ever the burgeoning Linux camp needed proof that Microsoft views the platform as a competitive threat, here it is. Microsoft's 'Get the Facts' page cites research from the likes of IDC as well as case studies from Safeway, Samsung, Yahoo and HP among others to back up its claims.
