Sunday evening saw reports of yet another email-borne worm affecting MS Windows. Bagle spreads via email, following the opening of an attachment. Sounds familiar?

A network called 'Internet'
Punctuation marks that look like smiley faces express happiness on a new communication tool known as "Internet." The computer network is already being used by 15 million people worldwide — to chat or do important research. Communication may be anonymous and isolated, but there's always someone to talk to about sports, recipes or politics.
"In this world there's a table with a big sign on it saying football," explains a computer expert in this CBC TV clip.

Software to allow security officials to better search and translate documents in foreign languages, especially Arabic, has been demonstrated at a technology show in Las Vegas, as Clark Boyd reports. UK launches first digital stamps
The Royal Mail is launching the UK's first digital stamp, a service aimed at small firms.
The system, called SmartStamp, allows users to print stamps straight onto envelopes from their computers.
It means they can ditch the traditional stamp for an image of their choice, such as a company logo.

US illegal downloads on the rise
The number of people illegally downloading copyrighted tracks from the internet has risen after a six-month slump, analysts in the US have said.
The number of US households downloading tracks from sites rise 6% in October and 7% in November, market researchers the NPD Group said on Thursday.

Intel and HP find oldest working PC
Dutch company PHI DATA yesterday received a € 18,000 prize from Intel, HP and Dutch IT weekly Computable for still owning and operating a vintage IBM 5160 (Intel 8088) computer from 1983. PHI Data uses the IBM to test matrix printers. It is now officialy the oldest obsolete-yet-active PC in the Low Countries.

The Colour of the World Wide Web
The colour of the World Wide Web is: #9C9C9C (rgb: 156,156,156). There is no dominant hue in the Web.
The average web page is depicted on the right (scale 1 : 5). The left hand side and the top of the Web appear to be a slightly darker gray, which might indicate that menus are generally located there and that they are darker.

Computer's chips turn into potatoes
Staff at a department store in the German city of Kaiserslautern called detectives after an angry customer tried to return a computer stuffed with potatoes to the shop twice on the same day.
The man berated sales assistants in the store, complaining that the computer he had bought only hours before did not work, according to police reports.
