How Microsoft Is Clipping Longhorn
To get the already-delayed follow-up to Windows XP out the door by 2006, it has decided to omit some of the most ambitious features. Never in its history has Microsoft (MSFT ) had to wait so long between Windows releases. When Windows XP launched in October, 2001, researcher Gartner Inc. expected the software giant to gin up a new version within two years. But Microsoft's ambitious follow-up to Windows XP, code-named Longhorn, has bogged down in delays. The company rarely discloses timelines for products, lest it miss its targets. But in copies of two e-mail messages obtained by BusinessWeek, Microsoft lays out a roadmap that shows Longhorn debuting in the first six months of 2006.

Intego warns of Trojan Horse for OS X, offers update
Intego today said it released an updated virus definitions for Intego VirusBarrier to protect Mac users against the first Trojan horse that affects Mac OS X. This Trojan horse, MP3Concept (MP3Virus.Gen), exploits a weakness in Mac OS X where applications can appear to be other types of files: "The Trojan horse's code is encapsulated in the ID3 tag of an MP3 (digital music) file. This code is in reality a hidden application that can run on any Macintosh computer running Mac OS X. Intego says the malicious application can delete files, propogate itself by sending a message to other users, and also infect other MP3, JPEG, GIF or QuickTime files.

The Pure Software Act of 2006
100 years ago, Congress passed a law requiring honest labeling of food and drugs. Now the time has come to do the same for software.
Spyware is the scourge of desktop computing. Yes, computer worms and viruses cause billions of dollars in damage every year. But spyware—programs that either record your actions for later retrieval or that automatically report on your actions over the Internet—combines commerce and deception in ways that most of us find morally repugnant.

BitTorrent Links
Kevin Elliott put together a nice list of BitTorrent sites. There was one prolem, though: none were actually links. And many of the URLs presented were dead. So here, for your clicking enjoyment, is his list in link form. All dead links have been removed. Sites have not been checked for quality, but you can probably determine that for yourself. Let me know if there’s a site that needs to be added to the list.

i took apart my gameboy
I dissassembled a standard GameBoy Advance SP. It's not too impressive a feat, technically, but it's useful as a reference for future GameBoy hacking or modding. There aren't really any gotchas, and no dangerous voltage, so if you have the right tools, it's a good easy device to dig into.

Microsoft Releases Source Code on SourceForge
The Redmond software giant is making its Windows installer technology under OSI's Common Public License.
On Monday, Microsoft released some of its code under an open-source license, and posted it on SourceForge, the open-source code repository.
To date, Microsoft has made its source code available under a variety of licensing mechanisms, all under its "shared source" umbrella. But until today, the company had not released code under what is commonly considered a true open-source license.

BitTorrent
BitTorrent is a new and innovative P2P file sharing software. As soon as you download a chunk of a file BitTorrent uploads it to other users therefore the file spreads and downloads much faster. The more people download the faster it goes. Use the following link to download the latest BitTorrent client. Remember to leave the download window open as long as it's possible.

TorrentStorm Windows BitTorrent Client
This is, in my opinion, the best client available for use in Windows. A few advantages over the official or Shadow clients (for instance) are that the torrents are all viewed in the same window thereby lessening the effect of the 'doze clutterbar, better torrent detail view, and completely configurable main window information view (as in, you choose exactly how and what you want displayed).
