Sony Vaio VGN-X505VP

Let's get the obvious out of the way first. This latest Vaio from Sony is, without a shadow of a doubt, the coolest notebook computer ever. It's that simple. This is the kind of product that just stops people in their tracks when they see it. Pull this out of your bag in an aiport departure lounge, and your fellow passengers will turn green with envy, and shamefully hide their own big and heavy notebooks under the nearest chair.

ARRESTS MADE IN RELATION TO HALF-LIFE 2 THEFT

Arrests have been made in several countries related to the break-in to Valve's network, theft of the Half-Life 2 source code, and release of the source code on the Internet.

"Within a few days of the announcement of the break-in, the online gaming community had tracked down those involved," said Gabe Newell, Valve's CEO. "It was extraordinary to watch how quickly and how cleverly gamers were able to unravel what are traditionally unsolvable problems for law enforcement related to this kind of cyber-crime."

The Wi-Fi explosion: a virus writer's dream

With the consumer Wi-Fi explosion, launching a virus into the wild has never been easier and more anonymous than it is today. Like a sneeze in a crowded subway, it's hard to find the human source of the latest viral infection. On the Internet it's not much different. The people who write these nasty little programs and release them into the wild almost never get caught. Why? The answer is easy, but it's also a sort of technical nemesis: there's simply no way to track these people down.

Digital pen takes on mouse

Imagine if you could pick up a digital file or a note on a computer and pass it to a colleague's computer as easily as you can give them a paper document or a Post-It note. Researchers at Sony's Computer Science Laboratories in Tokyo believe they have figured out how to do just that.

Today, laptops, mobile phones and PDAs are everywhere and we digitally swap or access an increasing amount of information.

A Linux Desktop Bonanza OS for FREE

Linux desktop vendors Xandros and Linspire (also known as Lindows) are offering more desktop software for less, and, in the case of Xandros, for nothing.

Xandros is giving away a version of its Linux Desktop Operating System for free.

"Our principal aim is to spread the use of desktop Linux as far and wide as possible," Frederick H. Berenstein, chairman and chief technology officer of Xandros, told internetnews.com. "We've also had a tremendously positive reception for the Xandros Desktop products and we felt that this would be an ideal way to give back to the community."
