Fall Comdex canceled due to shortage of key exhibitors
The huge annual fall Comdex IT trade show, which had been set to open Nov. 14 in Las Vegas, has been postponed by its promoters because of a lack of support from major exhibitors.
The next Comdex show in the U.S. is scheduled for Nov. 13-17, 2005, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

Microsoft patents body power
Microsoft has been awarded a patent for using human skin as a power conduit and data bus.
Patent No. 6,754,472, which was published Tuesday, describes a method for transmitting power and data to devices worn on the body and for communication of data between those devices.
In its filing, Microsoft cites the proliferation of wearable electronic devices, such as wristwatches, pagers, PDAs (worn on people's belts) and small displays that can now be mounted on headgear.

Kripo schaltet Browsergame wegen Anstiftung zu Straftaten ab
Das Browsergame SchoolWars wurde von der Kriminalpolizei abgeschaltet, nachdem einige Rektoren und Eltern Anzeige wegen Anstiftung zu Straftaten erstatteten. Zeitgleich gab es eine Hausdurchsuchung beim Scripter zur Sicherung von Beweismaterial.

XP SP2 release candidate, No not for you pirate
The new Service pack contains tons of bug fixes, security enhancements and more. The build 2149 which is only available to Beta testers registered with Microsoft, and will be provided "soon" to an open pool of technical testers.
New features include, Firewall on by default, browser, email and memory protection, and better wireless experience. Pirated copies will not be able to install it, as Microsoft released earlier.

Kiswahili is to be introduced into Microsoft Windows as part of a global project to increase world usage.
The software giant has agreed to translate its Office software into the language to cater for the growing number of computer users in Africa.

Munich embraces the penguin
The city council of Munich yesterday decided to go ahead with its planned migration from proprietary to open source applications. Although financial and technical problems have dogged Project LiMux, Munich's Rathaus (City Hall) will now migrate 16,000 desktop PCs to the Linux operating system.

Illegaler Server mit 60.000 Musiktiteln beschlagnahmt
Ein Server mit 60.000 Musiktiteln wurde heute beschlagnahmt. Dies ist der bislang größte Schlag gegen Musikpiraten in Deutschland.
Am frühen Morgen wurde ein Nürnberger Netzwerktechniker auf frischer Tat ertappt. Der Server agierte im Internet unter dem Namen 'Lopodata' und stellte auf FTP-Basis eine umfangreiche Musiksammlung zum Download bereit.
