Microsoft-Entwickler stahl offenbar bei AltaVista
Ein Microsoft-Mitarbeiter steht unter Verdacht, Code des Suchmaschinenbetreibers AltaVista entwendet zu haben. Laut amerikanischen Nachrichtendiensten sei der 29-Jährige vor zwei Jahren von AltaVista entlassen worden, bevor er in der Entwicklungsabteilung für die MSN-Suche eine neue Anstellung fand.

Alleged Hacker Now Works for Microsoft
A man accused of hacking into search engine company AltaVista's computer systems about two years ago is now employed by Microsoft Corp., reportedly working on search technology. Microsoft spokeswoman Tami Begasse said Friday that Chavet, who lives in suburban Kirkland, is an employee of Microsoft. She declined further comment on the nature of Chavet's employment or when he started at the company, citing Microsoft policy on not discussing personnel matters.

Sony Launches 20 Gigabyte Walkman To Rival iPod
Sony has announced that it is launching a Walkman digital music player which can store 20-gigabytes. Sony say it can carry 13,000 songs, more than Apple's iPod which can store 10,000 songs and Sony have undercut the price of an iPod too.

Spinach power is not just for Popeye, it could work for computers too. US researchers have made electrical cells that are powered by plant proteins.
The biologically based solar cells, which convert light into electrical energy, should be efficient and cheap to manufacture, says co-creator Marc Baldo of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. They could even be used to coat and power laptops, providing a portable source of green energy.

Internet Explorer Is Too Dangerous to Keep Using
Why? Because Internet Explorer, like Outlook, has finally become, to my mind, a permanent security hole that masquerades as a useful application.
Strong words? Have you really thought about this latest exploit? It could hit every Internet Explorer (IE) browser that merely visited any page served by an infected Microsoft IIS (Internet Information Server).

Experts Shut Down Server Used In Widespread Web Attack
Computer experts shut down Friday a server in Russia that was infecting machines with a virus after malicious code on normally friendly Web sites had them requesting the virus.
News.com reported that while computers were still searching for the server, they weren't able to download anything from it.

Virus setzt Finanzämter außer Gefecht
Am Freitag gab es in den Finanzämtern in Hamburg einen Totalausfall des Computersystems. Dieser wurde von einem Computervirus ausgelöst. Der Virus konnte erst am späten Nachmittag identifiziert werden.
