Missing FBI Laptops Still a Problem
Three or four FBI laptop computers are lost or stolen each month and the agency is unable to say in many instances whether information on the machines is sensitive or classified, the Justice Department's inspector general said Monday.

Quantum Computer may Debut Next Week
Techworld is reporting that D-Wave, a heavily funded Canadian company, plans to debut a “quantum computer” next week. This computing device “can carry out 64,000 calculations simultaneously (in parallel ‘universes’), thanks to a new technique which rethinks the already-uncanny world of quantum computing.”

High Security for $100 Laptop
Millions of XO laptops are expected to go into production late in 2007, with Thailand, Brazil, Uruguay and Rwanda, among others, signed up for the launch. If all goes according to plan, that will make the XO laptop's operating system one of the more common platforms in the world. And with kids as young as 6 as target users, hackers may already be dreaming of taking computers from babies through rogue code.

Skype Reads Your BIOS and Motherboard Serial Number
Well, that’s weird. Skype’s trying to run a .com file, which won’t work on Win64 because there’s no NTVDM. Let’s try opening it in Hex Workshop. Access denied? OK, I’ll terminate Skype to read it. Still can’t?! This thing is really starting to annoy me. I’ll use WinDbg to terminate winlogon.exe to force a kernel panic. I reboot and NOW I can read the damn file.

Fake Torrent Finder
The MPAA and RIAA likes to upload fake torrents to track down pirates.
How can you tell what a fake torrent is and what isn't? Well, this finder lets you enter in the title of a torrent or the hashcode and it'll inform you if the torrent is fake or not.

That $200 Windows XP service pack called Vista
More than five years after the release of Windows XP, Windows Vista has arrived. The party line out of Redmond is that "Windows Vista is Microsoft's most secure platform to date," and you won't find anyone at Microsoft saying otherwise. But saying it's Microsoft's most secure operating system isn't saying that Windows Vista is the most secure operating system on the market today.
