Intel Core 2 considered evil
Various developers are busy implementing workarounds for serious bugs in Intel's Core 2 cpu.
These processors are buggy as hell, and some of these bugs don't just cause development/debugging problems, but will ASSUREDLY be exploitable from userland code.
As is typical, BIOS vendors will be very late providing workarounds / fixes for these processors' bugs. Some bugs are unfixable and cannot be worked around. Intel only provides detailed fixes to BIOS vendors and large operating system groups. Open Source operating systems are largely left in the cold.

Hans Reiser: Once a Linux Visionary, Now Accused of Murder [Interview]
Hans Reiser is waiting for me, standing on the other side of an imitation-wood table. The room is small, the concrete walls bare. A guard locks the steel door from the outside. There is no sound. Reiser is wearing the red jumpsuit of a prisoner in solitary confinement, though he has been allowed to meet with me in this chilly visiting room. There was a time when he was known as a cantankerous but visionary open source programmer. His work was funded by the government; he was widely credited (and sometimes reviled) for rethinking the structure of the Linux operating system. Now he is known as prisoner BFP563.

C64 USB keyboard
This page describes how to build a USB-keyboard in the form-factor of an old C64 breadbox. Actually, with little modification it can be used for any kind of keyboard, since the source code is available, and all that needs to be done is to modify the key-to-scancode mapping.
The c64key is based on Objective Development's AVR-USB firmware only USB stack for Atmel AVR microcontrollers, and the simple HIDkeys example they provide. The implementation presented here has a more elaborate keyboard scanning routine, and allows multiple keys to be pressed (and detected) simlutaneously.

Woman cleans keyboard... in dishwasher
You've got a desktop keyboard. And it's stained, grimy and filled with crumbs - not to mention the odd short, curly hair that really can't have got there through natural means. What do you do? You put it in the Whirlpool, that's what.
