E-mail virus insults its victims
A new computer virus has managed to infect--and insult--less savvy Internet users, antivirus companies said on Wednesday. Known as Winevar, the computer worm arrives in e-mail as an attachment that infects Windows PCs when opened and displays a dialog box pronouncing, "What a foolish thing you have done!"
Despite the playful tone however, the virus is no joke.

Berlin Net cafés: a web of drugs and porn

"Hands off the keyboards," an officer shouts. And then his men fan out to check what websites the customers have been surfing.

The End of the Hardware Era?
For the past 50 years, IBM (IBM ) has perhaps been the biggest force on the planet in private-sector high-tech research. So it was no small thing when Big Blue announced on Nov. 20 that of the $17 billion it plans to spend on research and development in the next three years, a cool $1 billion will go specifically to innovations in technology services. A dedicated army of 200 R&D consultants will work with IBM's 3,000 other researchers to create new approaches to solving problems -- primarily via software.
