100-year-old model for electric car coming back

It was good enough for John D. Rockefeller Jr.

To promote itself, Detroit Electric--a new joint venture between Zap and China's Youngman Automotive Group--plan to release a limited number of cars based around the Detroit Electric, an electric car produced by the Anderson Electric Car Co. in the early part of the 20th century.

Anderson produced various models of the Detroit Electric from 1907 to 1939. Customers included Henry Ford and Rockefeller. It was also featured on a stamp. TV host Jay Leno has some of the cars in his collection.

The Electric Car Conspiracy ... that never was

It's almost two years since the debut of Chris Paine's documentary Who Killed the Electric Car? The movie has been a success in US theatres and often comprises one half of a double bill with Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth. But what the success of the movie tells us is more alarming than any conspiracy it purports to unveil: a disdain for engineering, for technological innovation, and most of all a disdain for us, the consumers.

MV Agusta's Limited-Edition Superbike Is One Sexy Beast

You are looking at the Steve Austin of motorcycles: better, stronger, faster. Claudio Castiglioni, managing director of Italian manufacturer MV Agusta, was apparently bored with his company's already mind-boggling bikes — so he commissioned a special model just for himself. Then he approved 99 more for the lucky few who can shell out $128,000 for certain death. Dubbed the F4CC (CC for Claudio Castiglioni), it's as close as a civilian will ever get to a full-blown Superbike racer. It's actually faster.

Moller Flying Car May Be Grounded Permanently

For decades, futurists have predicted (and science fiction types have just assumed) that we're on the verge of having flying cars. It's pretty much the standard prediction. And yet, despite years of hype, the idea of the flying car has always been the technology of tomorrow.

Is a Flying Car About to Take Off?

It might sound like a scene straight out of the Jetsons, but a Massachusetts company is developing a small airplane that can land, fold up its wings and drive down the highway.

Terrafugia Inc., a company founded three years ago by graduates from the Massachusetts Institute of technology (MIT), is in the process of building a prototype of The Transition, a 19-foot, two-seater the company describes as a roadable light-sport aircraft. And it's focused on building something that can take to the roads as easily as it takes to the skies.
