Court won't declare chimp a person
He's now got a human name - Matthew Hiasl Pan - but he's having trouble getting his day in court. Animal rights activists campaigning to get Pan, a 26-year-old chimpanzee, legally declared a person vowed Thursday to take their challenge to Austria's Supreme Court after a lower court threw out their latest appeal.
A provincial judge in the city of Wiener Neustadt dismissed the case earlier this week, ruling that the Vienna-based Association Against Animal Factories had no legal standing to argue on the chimp's behalf.

Austrian Cooking
My name is Bernhard Baumgartner. I have been a professional chef since 1990 and I live in Vienna, Austria. Actually I am Upper Austrian from Innviertel, a fact that I choose to emphasize. Upper Austria is the western section of the country which has higher elevations; Lower Austria is eastern Austria as it meets the Hungarian plain. Upper Austrian home cooking formed my culinary soul; Viennese cooking is what I learned since living here.

Wiener Stadtwerke vs Owen Pallett
Wiener Stadtwerke are the leading water, gas and electricity provider in Vienna, Austria. They also provide public transportation and run a huge undertaking business...
Well, those who live in Vienna and watch TV or go to the movies sometimes, have probably seen the new commercials. Here's the song they use: www.wienerstadtwerke.at They claim that the name is "Wohlfühlsong" (=feel good song) by an artist named NASCO. I tried Googling that artist, but nothing came up.
And now compare the song to the beginning of Final Fantasy's "This is the Dream of Win & Regine." Here's the video: www.youtube.com
You will probably agree that the two sound very much alike!
Final Fantasy is a Canadian one-man-project by violin player/singer/songwriter Owen Pallett. He recorded "This is the Dream of Win & Regine" for his 2005 debut album "has a good home c.d." He sued.
If you would like to support Owen Pallett and tell Wiener Stadtwerke what you think of all this, there is a handy "Kontakt" link on the top right corner of www.wienerstadtwerke.at
But mostly, I'm just posting it to make people aware of what's going on...

Let There Be Light
The sun is always shining somewhere in Innsbruck. Unless, of course, somebody turns it off. That's because the Austrian city has the Bartenbach LichtLabor artificial sky. Equipped with 3,000 computer-controlled fluorescent, halogen, and LED bulbs, the 14-foot-tall dome can simulate daylight conditions - from a clear summer morning to a stormy winter afternoon - anywhere on Earth.

Monkey see, monkey sue: Austrian activists want chimpanzee declared a ’person’
In some ways, Hiasl is like any other Viennese: He indulges a weakness for pastry, likes to paint and enjoys chilling out watching TV.
But he doesn't care for coffee, and he isn't actually a person - at least not yet.
In a case that could set a global legal precedent for granting basic rights to apes, animal rights advocates are seeking to get the 26-year-old male chimpanzee legally declared a "person."
