Artist investigated after shining Kim Dotcom “light art” on US Embassy
A German artist may now potentially face criminal charges in Germany after he projected a huge image onto the walls of the United States Embassy in Berlin last Sunday.
The image was of fellow German Kim Dotcom, the embattled founder of Megaupload, along with the phrase “United Stasi of America,” referring to the secret police of former East Germany. Oliver Bienkowski videoed the event and set the video to a song that Dotcom had previously recorded, entitled “Mr. President," which includes lines like: “What about free speech, Mr. President?”

Landgericht Berlin verbietet Graffiti-Doku “UNLIKE U”
Das Landgericht hat bereits vor einigen Wochen die Graffiti-Doku “UNLIKE U” verboten. Und zwar, weil die Macher sich keine Drehgenehmigung für das Filmen von U-Bahnhöfen und Betriebsgeländen der BVG erteilen liesen. Verrückte Welt.

Vintage Rolling Paper-Packaging
This site has been designed as an aid to collectors of antique cigarette rolling papers. The motivation for this site arose due to the lack of any significant resources where such items can be identified, displayed, dated and other information realised.
Myself and other collectors have been collecting these items for many years. With many of these items, it is difficult to establish even trivial information such as which country they originated from.
This site hopes to fill the gap a little and is a joint effort by a number of collectors who have been willing to share such information and provide examples of their personal collections.

First Neanderthal cave paintings discovered in Spain
Cave paintings in Malaga, Spain, could be the oldest yet found – and the first to have been created by Neanderthals.
Looking oddly akin to the DNA double helix, the images in fact depict the seals that the locals would have eaten, says José Luis Sanchidrián at the University of Cordoba, Spain. They have "no parallel in Palaeolithic art", he adds. His team say that charcoal remains found beside six of the paintings – preserved in Spain's Nerja caves – have been radiocarbon dated to between 43,500 and 42,300 years old.

Legendärer Bukowski-Übersetzer Carl Weissner tot - Sein Herz gehörte der Underground-Literatur
Als vor zwei Jahren mit Manhattan Muffdiver erstmals von ihm auch ein Roman auf Deutsch erschien, im Wiener Milena Verlag, antwortete Carl Weissner auf die Frage, warum dieser Roman denn mit einem Bericht von der Beerdigung Charles Bukowskis ende: "Dass muss man nicht so verstehen, dass ich von Bukowski nicht loskomme, sondern es hat einen eher praktischen Grund: Ich brauchte noch zwanzig Seiten Text. Und diese Reportage (...) war der einzige deutsche Text, den ich in der Schublade hatte."
So viel Nonchalance und Pragmatismus in allen Ehren – doch natürlich konnte Carl Weissner von dem legendären, 1994 gestorbenen Gossen- und Saufpoeten Bukowski nicht einfach so loskommen. Er wollte das auch gar nicht. Weissner hatte diesen schließlich Mitte der sechziger Jahre selbst entdeckt, 1970 mit dem Band Aufzeichnungen eines Außenseiters erstmals übersetzt und dann derart verkauft und gefördert, dass Bukowski insbesondere in den Siebzigern und Achtzigern in Deutschland zu einem viel gelesenen Autor wurde. Fiel der Name Bukowski, wurde einen Atemzug später auch schon der Name von Weissner genannt.

Die Krise mag in immer neuen Gewändern erscheinen, aber es bleibt stets dieselbe Krise. Sie begann im Jahr 2007, als der lange Wirtschaftsboom endete. Seither sind die Finanzmärkte in Aufruhr, die Politik ist in Alarmbereitschaft. Fünf Jahre Krise und kein Ende: Die Staatengemeinschaft hat serienweise Tabus gebrochen und zahllose Milliarden aufgewendet, um die Weltwirtschaft zu stabilisieren.
Sie hat die Banken gerettet und sich selbst in Gefahr gebracht. Nun stehen die Banken erneut unter Druck. Ob das Schlimmste vorüber ist, kann angesichts der unzähligen Wendungen niemand wissen. Klar ist nur eins: Uns steht noch viel bevor.
