P2P Networks Could Become Banned in the USA

A bill in the US senate called the Inducing Infringement of Copyrights Act is directed towards "whoever intentionally induces any violation" of copyrights. The bill would overturn the April 2003 ruling which said Grokster was legal to operate.

Critics say that the bill is too broadly worded and that it could do more than ban P2P networks. They say consumer electronics devices such as Tivo and iPods could be affected because some users use those devices to copy things for free.
