25 books from 25 years for smart, sophisticated readers The concept of the "graphic novel" crystallized 25 years ago with the publication of Will Eisner's "Contract with God." Part 1 of TIME.comix's special anniversary coverage looked at the history, controversy and current status of the graphic novel.
